Clockworkmod Recovery for the LG Lucid

This software is licensed under the WTFPL

what this means is simple, you can do whatever you want with this software ;)

    Download

cwm looping? download this and flash in recovery

thanks to thisjustin for providing stock kernel

    https://github.com/Shabbypenguin/android_device_lge_vs840 source

there is a hardware set of controls to get into recovery however it causes the phone to detect cwm and get stuck booting there, thus you will "cwm bootloop". use the second zip and flash it in recovery to unstick and put stock recovery on there. use apps like rom manager and quickboot to get into cwm without sticking

Like I can't boot at all not into recovery or anything all I can see is a black screen. You know bricked.

I can't get into recovery in the first place. I had no issues rooting but when I attempt to go into recovery via quickboot it just restarts my phone. And running the CWM-Installer doesn't do anything either. Any ideas??

i removed the link for now. not sure why this caused issues

Thanks for the work on this Shabby. I'll give it a try once it's more predictable.

Anyone know how to snag the OTA and install it manually? After I rooted, I now keep getting nagged to install and the install fails.

EDIT: Saw a suggestion that the OTA is blocked due to the stock apps not being there (I had removed them after root). Tried a factory reset to add the apps back, but even after that it's not running the OTA. Seems like root just completely blocks it.

    Shabbypenguin Well-Known Member Developer

    nope you did

removing those system apps means teh ota cant install... a factory reset wipes out your apps and settings/data has nothing to do with restoring apps. you arent suppose to be able to remove those because you arent supposed to have root, ergo its not designed to restore crap you removed ;)

    No brick here.

    Here's what I did:

    1. Installed the LG Spectrum drivers from the Root thread
    2. Plugged in the phone
    3. Switched the USB connection setting to Network/ethernet

Batch ran, had some errors on the remove statements, I think. Hit enter to close the batch file.

Phone rebooted 2 or 3 times, but came back up. Installed Quick Boot and chose to boot into recovery. Successfully got into CWM. Now what? :D

wait your sayign you have this installed and its working fine?
  15. blumeany

    blumeany Well-Known Member

Eh. Disregard. It worked fine after reboots, but when I powered it on this morning after charging it started to CWM loop. Used the unlooper to get back in though.

the unlooper is needed just because of lg's weird ass boot management, it was found if you entered recovery using buttons on the lg connect (your sister phone) then it would do a check to see the integrity of the partitions, and since you had cwm it would fail there, so i whipped up the delooper to ensure you could get back out.

but thats not my concern, thisjustin claims he cant turn on his phone becaus eof cwm, which i dont know how that happened with this. and you claim its working fine :/

Well, to be honest, I'm a little paranoid about turning my phone off again in fear of it bricking. :D But bricking can be caused by any number of missteps along the way.

If anyone can devise a way to either install the OTA manually or get it to stop nagging, I'd appreciate it. :)

I'm getting these errors when running the CWM install:

rm failed for /system/etc/install-recovery.sh, No such file or directory
rm failed for /system/recovery-from-boot.p, No such file or directory

Not sure if that's effecting the install or not.

EDIT: Nevermind. Did some digging in the Spectrum forum and it looks like these errors are benign.

I also downloaded both your zip for the lucid and the zip for the spectrum that is out there. Noticed that in your zip the image for CWM is about 5mb, whereas the spectrum image is 16mb. Also noticed that in the spectrum zip I downloaded there was a folder marked 'New Folder' that contained a CWM image that was marked 'bad', but also seemed to be the same size as the image that you had in the Lucid zip.

In the midst of tooling around, I had copied the CWM image from the spectrum over to the Lucid folder as was contemplating running the install with that image. Well, I had launched the batch file, but stopped short of starting it when I turned to as a question in this thread about the size discrepancy....next thing I knew the batch file was actually running the CWM install on the phone. :D Anyways, didn't really end up doing anything (just shuts off the phone when I try to boot into recovery). Can't get into CWM after the install, and no bootloop (thankfully), even after a battery pull.

I might just be crazy, but it does seem to me that I have to hold the power button just a little bit longer after the CWM install to get the phone to power on. Seems to simple of an answer though.

the spectrum uses a different kernel thus cwm for them wont work. the one i made is made for the lucid.

the only thing you guys should be sharing is the spectrum root script because the exploit still works for you guys, everything else is different. look to the lg viper and the lg connect for cool tricks/hacks that should work on your phone with minimal edits.

Will do. One off-the-wall question: Why does the backup on these phones take so long? Finally got backup working via some tricks in the Connect forum, and I'm backing up right now and it's taking a while. The Incredible didn't take nearly as long, and I probably had more crap on that phone at the time. :p

EDIT: Think the cause may have been that it was locking up without locking up during that backup. It was running through files with various numbers that ended in '.report'. Did that for longer than it should, so I just did a battery pull. Going to try to reinstall CWM again and clear the cache.

overall at the end of teh day id like to get an oc'd kernel in with recovery (nothign quite like having an oc'd recovery ;) ) and i want to switch to twrp for you guys since it supports dual core backups, however last attempt was it not booting and teh colors ****ed

Sounds awesome! Thanks for your hard work on this. CWM doesn't seem to be cutting it right now. TWRP sounds purty. :D

Just bought the Lucid (well got it free actually cuz the Illusion sucks and I complained enough lol) and totally excited to get cwm. Wish me luck :p. Let me know if anyone wants me to test anything. I'm thinking of starting the daunting task of porting CM7 now that we have root and cwm.
