    Hi all

I'm new to Android phones and found getting all my text clumped together under a single thread strange.. whereas they would all be single on my last S/ericsson.

I then wanted to froward a single message on.. not possible .. I thought; then i just thought I would put my finger on one of the 39 in the thread and hit foward.. WOW it just took the text off the one I highlighted!

It was a Eurika moment ....for me anyway .. manual is too brief to be of use.. just glad I can do it

might be old hat to most here :)

    regards

Try Handcent SMS available free from Marketplace. If you do switch to Handcent
You may need to go into settings in the original Messenger and switch off notifications, as you don't want both programs updating the status bar with message received.

That is 'some' app you refered too!

However my post was not a moan at the i5700.. just noting something i learned.. the hard way... and wanted to pass on the tip...

I actually like the system.... now. I'm open to other ideas though, so thanks.

Can't wait for Android 2.1 for i5700... some have already done it.. unofficially.. have you?

ps I can't understand Samsung giving the PC Studio software that does (apprently) nothing for the phone to Pc function.. I can't even see the internal memory or mSD card.. unless I take it out and put it in a reader!

I might be missing something here though... I am a newbie!

    Thanks again

    Yep, you are missing something.

Connect your phone to PC via USB.
From the phone, when on the Main Home screen
    Press Menu key
    Notifications
    Press USB connected.
    Choose Mount

Your SD card on the phone should now be visible on the PC.

    Thanks for the info..

    between our posts.

I just downloaded another version of PC Studio (apparently for the portal called NPS Vs1.4) should I use the one that came with the phone (samsung support said not to use the one that came with the phone but use Google?)

Well I have 1.5NPS and it's no great improvement. I use Windows 7, and NPS 1.5 still doens't see my phone, and I can't edit contacts etc. NPS1.5 just see's the SD card.

I wouldn't rely on NPS, not for the moment anyway.

If you haven't already, create a Gmail account and stick all your contacts on there. You can also use the Gmail Calander.

After you can then sync your phone with your Gmail account and get both updated.

In fact I found it much easier to edit/create my contacts and calander on Gmail and sync them back to my phone.

I had heard of success in India but no one in UK.. as you have.

I am tryig to get the courage to do it.. I used to beware of BIOS updates until I did quite a few (my job) but it comes eventually. :)

If I knew Samsung UK's roadmap fro rolling it out I would decide on that..

    Oh well

    Thanks for the information

    regards

You need to log into your Gmail account, go into your Contacts and edit every contact and change their default Phone Mobile No. Once done, re-sync your contacts using your phone.

    From Phone
    Menu
    Settings
    Accounts & Sync
Under Manage Accouts select your Gmail account
    and sync contacts.

A right pain in the R's but once done, you'll be set for ALL future updates.

Now time to forget the default Messaging app. There are many many more better and more useful apps in Market place, than those that come as default

Best Messaging App replacement is Handcent.

    See Handcent

You can download it from Market. When installed, go into original Messaging settings and disable notifications. You don't need both apps informing you of SMS alerts.

In Handcent go into settings and choose Mobile Ph. No's only.
