So, another thread about cases got me looking around again and I went to otterbox.com to see if there was any news of them developing a Droid case. Much to my surprise they have, and it's coming soon! I still want a Defender case, but the Commuter is a nice series as well.

DROID by Motorola Commuter Series Case // OtterBox.com

What is nice about this though, the Otterbox case has plugs for all the ports on the Droid to keep out dust/water and is made from a three layer protective material that absorbs shock fairly well, yet remaining slender. If you've ever dealt with their iPhone cases, you know how awesome they are.

Would be nice to get a defender case for the Droid. Had one for my first gen iPhone.

Wow, that looks pretty nice. I've always been saying I'm keeping my Droid naked but I may need to get one of those. It's not every day they make a decent case for the Droid that lets you still use the hardware keyboard.

As a touring motorcyclist, I have been waiting for OtterBox to offer one for the DROID. This will be mounted on the handlebars of my new Kaw Concours14.

As soon as I get an email from them, I'm pulling the trigger. These cases are second to NONE.

For bike use, I'd use one of these. I just don't know if it will work with a capacitive screen. I had my iPaq 5550 in one when I was over in sandland. It was my only electronic device I wasn't still finding sand in a year after I got back! Sand does very evil things to laptop hinges.....

I sent them an email asking about any issues with removing the case repeatedly for a dock.. here's their response.

i have the seidio case for the driod right now, and i really like it. The two cases look similar, just i like how the otterbox has a covering over the usb jack.

I too have the seidio Innocase, with the holster, the car kit, and the desktop cradle. All in all this is the only solution I have found that still allows for charging media dock that can fit a case. But that Otter case does look good

Hey just got one of these cases. And it is really light weight. I wish I had this before because my camera button would still be gold. :(

This case is way better than my old snap on cover.

Lol. I didnt know it wasnt out yet until i saw this thread. But yeah, my friend calls me up and tells me he has something for my droid and bam he brings out this case. He told me it was a prototype and im like ok whatever. But i guess he was telling the truth. He works for a cell phone accessories distribution company and an Otter rep visited and gave him this case. Its a really nice case.

Seems obvious to me, but I haven't found one in my indifferent searches. Is there a sheath for sale somewhere? Like a protective pouch you can store the phone in while it's in your pocket?

Considering the docks and so forth, it would make sense to have a 'naked' phone when hooking it up to such things. But I'd like a bit more protection from casual bonks and bumps while it's in my pocket...

How drop resistant is this case? Is it any better than the Seidio Innocase?

I don't know if I'll try to drop my droid with or without this case but it seems pretty sturdy. In between the case and the phone, theres that silicon or rubber (whatever it's called) so I would assume it protects well when dropped. I've had this case for a few days now and the only thing I wished it had was a rubberize back so it won't slip and slide on my middle console of my car. I guess that's why this case is so light.

I had a knock off case that is pretty much a splash of the OtterBox... only one layer, though, and probably cheaper material - it was made of a tough silicon-type plastic. I liked it, but had 2 big issues, one of which it looks like the otter box has -

#1 - the case covered the Mic. Sucked, all calls sound like I had a pillow over my face. I ended up useing a paper hole punch to cut a 1/2 circle out of the case at the mic, issue fixed... But why was it covered in the first place?

Issue B - the case covered the power button. This made it hard to use the button to wake and sleep the phone. PITA, really. The volume rocker and the picture buttons didn't have this issue ( bigger buttons, not close to a corner? IDK). I don't use the case anymore, because of this issue - phone is currently nude.

Again, this was a knock-off, and the real Otter may not have these issues. If the plastic is softer or more plyable, the power button may not be an issue. but from the pics, it looks like the Mic is still covered...
