I returned my first Fascinate due to it kept complaining the memory card was not plugged in. Would have to pop off the back of the phone off and remove then reinsert it to get it online again to use camera. Had to pay for an advanced replacement tell they get the old one back. Ugh. Well the replacement I just got does not do this but the compass does not work on it. I downloaded a compass app and it keeps saying abnormal readings and I need to recalibrate but no avail. My previous Fascinate seemed to have a working compass. Did I get a second defective phone? Any ideas?

My compass works like crap too... I open Google Navigation and the "arrow" points in the wrong direction. I spin the phone and it moves some, but its usually wrong. My DInc right next to it works fine... I spin the phone and the arrow points correctly.

My compass seems to work fine...what app are you using? I'll try that one specifically and report back.

EVERY flux gate compass needs to be calibrated. On the GalaxyS phones the instructions are to wave the phone in a "figure 8" pattern (hold it parallel to the floor, or slide it in a figure 8 on a flat surface) in order to do that.

With most flux gate compasses you make 1-2 slow 360-degree circles while in calibration mode to do the same thing, check the docs for your phone. Odds are that's all it needs.

Wow, never even heard of that. I'll give that a shot too.
