Been trawling about at lunchtime today and came accross a set of instructions on the Vodafone UK website for installing Froyo (in the forums)

Instructions seem pretty simple, i.e. backup, download a zip, copy to SD, and install (that's about it) My phones already rooted from an old lagfix (since removed) so I think I can just boot it into recovery and mode and install.

I followed the link and it took me to Samsung Open Source Release Center and sure enough there is a ROM available for download called

GT I9000 EUR JPM - opensource FROYO update JPM.ZIP

here's the vodafon thread link for those interested

    http://forum.vodafone.co.uk/topic/7...ed-as-the-best-version-of-froyo/page__st__20?

I'm downloading just now and just wondered if anybody could advise if worth trying to upgrade to this? is it an old ROM? is it official?

OK ZIP is downloaded and contains the following two files

GT-I9000_Kernal.tar.gz (modified date is 18/10/2010) 87.5MB in size

GT-I9000_Platform.tar.gz (modified date is 15/10/2010) 90.2MB in size

    any comments? Advice?

Those are ODIN files. You are going to need the pit file as well.

If you are going to flash Froyo anyway, why not flash a custom ROM? The risks are about the same, but with Custom ROMs there are usually more detailed instructions.

    cheers Snapper,

So basically the advice on the Vodafone forum of copying the Zip file to the root of the SDCard and booting into recovery is complete junk advice.

I'm bored with this whole FROYO thing now, just wish Sammy would get their act sorted out and stop the negativity that is being generated around what on the face of it is an excellent piece of hardware. I've actually found myself recommending to friends to buy something else just to save myself any loss of face.

Oh well.. November it is (maybe)
