There are 2 features I'd like to see, and would like to code (would be my first java app ever!)

    1) since most of our new calendar events are to meet with/call people in our contacts list, id like if the context menu for contacts could have a menu item added: Create Event. what would happen when selected is a new calendar event window would pop up, pre-populated with the contact's phone number in the Description field and their name in the Event Name field. the user could then modify these to add details. this mod would save us from having to go to the calendar and create an even to "call joe", only to have the reminder come up later and then have to navigate the contacts to find joe so we can call him. here, the event would have his number preloaded and could be clicked on (like a hyperlink) to load the number into the dialer

how do we hook into the contacts.apk file to make this type of mod? or, is the mod to be done some other way?

    2) though we can select different ring tones for different contacts/groups, and we can also set different ring volumes/vibes, it would be nice to have a ring profile that would, say, only let the "family" group ring but stay silent for everyone else. this way, i can put the phone in this mode when going to sleep, but still be available for emergency family phone calls.

i've searched around on xda and the google android developers group, but didn't find what i was looking for. any ideas?

    Hi Ham,

Did you have any success I have had my Nexus One for just over a week and now the dreaded truth has dawned on me... there is no call-log, contact, calendar and tasks integration.

I genuinely believed that all these great Google apps would happily combine together so that I could: make a call which would immediately log that call onto my Google calendar then from the contact page, book to arrange a date to call that person back and have it appear in my task list which would then remind me a few day before the said event.

For example: I call the dentist and arrange the date with reception, I then press a button on my phone and it accesses the calendar (automatically logs the day I made the call) then I simply add the time and date of the appointment with dentists contact details which appears in my GTasks page. Surely google can do this?

Alarmoid. $3.99/US. Set up a group at the google contacts website, then add that group to Alarmoid as the folks who can always get thru, despite "quiet" setting. I've been using it now for a couple of weeks. Works so well and so smoothly (Droid) that I forgot all about it-- til a late call came in from my brother.

(til google gets its integration act together, or everyone has google voice; even w/ google voice, I needed a way to silence the stock number as well; hence, my reliance on Alarmoid.)

    hey bran,

no luck yet. i haven't looked into it much more...just bear the extra clicks and typing to do it manually. i did find that one can add to current android menus, but i didn't look into adding the functionality yet (typical excuse: been busy).

the nexus one would have some appeal if there was a keyboard! how are you getting along on it without one?
