Contacts and Pictures with Facebook etc

I've linked all my contacts with Facebook, so that their notifications and pictures show in the contacts section of the Hero.

Thing is they seem to randomly disappear. Today, no contact pictures apart from mine at the top. I'm unable to redo these Facebook links as the phone will not show anything other than the message "friend data is either unavailable or downloading"

This has happened twice now but is staying blank for longer this time.

Any ideas?
