Alright, I'm in the market for a new phone. Can anyone tell me why I should pick the Fascinate over the Droid X?

Here is the three main reasons why I want to return my Droid X for the Fascinate:

    • Gorgeous screen. It looks absolutely stunning. Also, it is supposed to be so much better in direct sunlight. My Droid X really annoys me because it is next to impossible to see in sunlight. That is a big thing for me since I walk to my classes every day. So it is very difficult for me to text message people and change the song on the music player while I am walking.
    • Fast and smooth, and it's only going to get better once Froyo comes out. My Droid X lags from time to time and it is starting to annoy me.
    • Size and Design. It is a perfect balance between the 3.7" screen that is on the Incredible/Droid 2 and the 4.3" screen on the Droid X/EVO. I also prefer capacitive buttons over hard buttons. I also don't like the hump on the back of the Droid X. The design looks very similar to the iPhone 3G which I had for over a year and a half. That is something I like.

I am still waiting to hear how the battery life is. Based on the reviews of the Captivate and Vibrant that I am reading, the battery life should be pretty good and be on par with the other leading smartphones on the market right now. I also hope that picture quality is great. The Vibrant and Captivate take phenomenal pictures, so I am hoping the Fascinate does as well. I am not sure why it wouldn't, but you never know.

Looks like I'm going to be researching the Fascinate more now. The Droid x doesn't seem as interesting anymore. The only thing that really sold me on the X was the hdmi out.

You make a great point Drew, the 4" screen seems like a great compromise between 3.7" & 4.3".

Thanks to you both for your input.

My past experience with Samsung devices regarding reception and voice quality is that both have been average or slightly below. Same with build quality. Not even close to Motorola.

That's not to say this new Samsung won't be different, but the track record for me is what I stated above. Quandrant scores mean nothing to me if the phone doesn't get stellar reception

Battery life on the X is superb. I'll have to wait and see what kind of battery life the Fascinate gets.

All the Samsung Galaxy S phones have Li-Ion 1500 mAh batteries, so the battery life of all of them should be about the same. From what I am reading, the Captivate and Vibrant get a day or two worth of battery life. It all depends on how good your reception is. If you have Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on, you will only get around a day or so of battery life. If you have good reception and don't need Wi-Fi on, you should get around a day and a half to two days. It also depends on how heavily you will use the phone.

Before I returned my Captivate, I was getting 48+ hours during low usage times. I disabled all the live wallpaper, set the screen to black background, and didn't run any social media apps that constantly pull data and kill your battery.

(I returned the Captivate because I wanted to switch to Verizon due to better plans here. So I await the Fascinate.)

My old standard for phone batteries was the "weekend test". I would charge the phone on Thursday night or Friday morning, and leave it on all weekend while I was away from home. Assuming I didn't overuse it, I expected my phone to last till I came home Sunday night.

Yeah, I know, fat chance with these droid phones. :(

I wanted to add one more reason I prefer the Fascinate. That is the micro USB charger goes on the TOP of the phone. I really really hate how it goes on the side of the Droid X. That means that when it is charging, it is hard for me to do anything with the phone because the cord is in the way. It will be much less of a nuisance with the cord going in the top.

I agree with most everyone here. I have an Incredible right now and I can't wait to get this gorgeous screen. The extra speed is just an added bonus. I also agree with TheAlmightyDrew, I don't understand why they keep putting the usb ports in such horrible places. The top is better than the side, but the bottom would be perfect! Maybe next time.

Here's why I'm going to petition work to buy me one (and get rid of my Evo).

    1. The Screen. I watch a lot of movies on my phone, and this is THE NICEST looking screen I've seen. Yes, even nicer than the iPhone 4.

    2. The weight. This sucker is thin and light. A lot of people associate heft with quality, but for me, this isn't the case with mobile phones, only receivers (and maybe luxury cars). I'd much rather have a thinner, lighter phone. Also, the 4" screen doesn't seem any smaller to me than my Evo's screen, but the phone is much nicer to hold.

    3. The speed. Faster than the Snapdragon phones.

I'm really anxious to see what the devs come up with for this phone.

How are you getting this phone if you have an Incredible? Are you within your 30 day return window?

Are you going to sell the Incredible?

Its all up to you actually.
for me, I like X's screen size and text clarity.
I like Fascinate's screen vibrancy (no matter what anyone says, Pentile display is there and it DOES affect, to a certain degree, sharpness) .
Hummingbird "is" bettern than omap 3630 but we won't see any difference for a while until crazy 3d games get released.
I like how X already has so many developers on it.
Samsung Galaxy S does have more developers but with a slight difference between different models, I am not sure if there will be segmentation or not.
OH, wait, X is already out (although sold out in many places).
Also, I think X is more vanilla than Fascinate.
With that said "I" prefer Fascinate and hope custom(completely stock) roms come out soon.
edit: battery life is great on X.

Thanks for all your input. It looks like I'll wait to see what's being said about the Fascinate after it comes out.

It sounds like no matter which phone a person gets, they're both winners.

However, if I'm stuck with VZ navigator on the fascinate, I'm going with the X.

You are NOT stuck with VZ nav, you can download and use google maps on the Fascinate.

Honestly, what you should do for now while you wait is to go and look at reviews of the T-Mobile Vibrant and the AT&T Captivate. Those two as well as the Fascinate are all essentially the same phone except the Fascinate will have an LED flash. The Captivate is the one Galaxy S phone that has a different hardware design that sets it apart from the other three -- apart from the QWERTY keyboard on the Epic 4G.

But anyways, go look at the reviews and see if what you are hearing about the software, reception, battery life, camera quality etc etc is something you would like.

Bootloader isn't locked down which means easy to root and run customs roms therefore don't have to wait for carrier to release updates

What do you all think of the lack of HDMI out? This was the main selling point for me about the X

Just one more week man. One more week. The Droid 2 was kept under wraps until the day before it was set to release online, and two days before it was set to launch in stores. We didn't see reviews for the Droid 2 until the day of launch and the day after. I don't think it will be like that with the Fascinate. I have a strong feeling we will start to see media reviews within this next week. Probably not this week, but closer to the release day...like Tuesday or Wednesday.

Im the same way with the screen im in college and walk to all of my classes and it is next to impossible to read what someone sent me on my x(which i returned) and even my original droid. It really annoys me.
I also like the buttons on the fascinate as the x buttons feel cheap and seem like after awhile they will come off along with the camera button(which seems to be attached in only one place)
In the review by donthate the geek he says the battery outlasts his x and droid 2 so thats a big plus, not to mention it is a little smaller and therfore more one hand friendly and pocket friendly. Also cant forget how thin it is unlike the x with the weird hump in the back.

I'd wait for Fascinate reviews. Reviews are the end all. I find that no one is unbiased to one degree or another, so I need further comparison. I need to hold both phones. Go to the store. Take both phones in hand. Take them outside in direct sunlight.

And above all, for Pete's sake, check call quality. That's the mistake I made with the Incredible. I got all excited about waiting for it but had bad call quality issues. The DX was great for quality.

Yea. I was the one that asked him that question. I was pretty surprised and excited when he responded that he outlasted the Droid X and Droid 2.
