    Hi all

First post, so be gentle with me :)

I am running CoPilot Live 8 on my HTC Desire, and it works really well for actually getting from A to B, but amongst the small list of annoyances with this app is that the audio output from the app doesnt switch to using the headphone socket when they are being used, and keeps using the speaker on the rear of the phone.

I usually drive with the desire in a screen mounted holder, using an "iTrip" device to play MP3 from the phone through my radio, so anything that comes out of the onboard speaker (a) stops the music playback by switching to speaker only for the duration, and (b) is being drowned out by the noises in a moving car.

The other navigation apps I have tried all work fine through the headphone->iTrip system (Google Navigate, Navigon), so is this just a case of ALK coders not knowing the Android system as well as they should, or shoddy coding, or a straighjt port from iPhone version, or just a bug for the first android release of the app? Anyone found this issue to be just a little annoying?

ALK email support is notoriously poor from what I read from other CoPilot users, but I sent a feature request / bug report to them anyway (no response, not even a "yes, we are aware" or "thanks for letting us know").

i have contacted ALK support on a couple of occasions and they usually respond within a 24 hour period. I think they have a Twitter account, so it might be worth posting on their (that's if you use the service).

I have an unrelated Copilot question. Just installed it the other day on my Desire.

Is there a way for it to just show me my current location on a map (ala googlemaps) and then track my movements via GPS? (Ie. without havign to punch in a destination).

    Strange.

I too have co-pilot and use it in the same way as you describe. The only issue I have is with the volume through the headset socket is really low, and it is impossible to raise it. Raising it on their volume settings does nothing. It simply jumps back down to low.

    Your problem is really strange.......

Can I ask, when your jack is plugged in, does a headset icon show up in the notification bar?

The headset icon does appears, and MP3 plays fine through it. I wonder if it is really low, just like yours! I`ll try tonight by turning the volume right up on radio and see if I can hear that.

Yes. When you start CoPilot it will show your current location. If it still thinks its navigating got to menu/delete next stop. It then simply moves as you do.

It stores all journeys as what it calls Tracks (quite worrying if you don't want anyone to know where you've been). I presume this also applies to those without a destination but I don't know for sure (I'm going out shortly, I'll check).

You can play Tracks back in CoPilot (Settings/GPS Track Playback) or download them either via CoPilot Central or simply by navigating to the folder. Not sure what you'd do with them after that though.

ETA; yep, seems CoPilot does record Tracks regardless of whether you put a destination in :)

I (shock) got a reply back from ALK... but the reply was less than verbose :)

I'm pretty sure it used to work in a previous version on 2.1
