I've been trying to download the "Desktop Visualizer" (a free app) but it wasn't showing up in the market, and no matter how I tried (QR codes, direct links, appbrain), I couldn't get it to download. Turns out it's copy protected, which seems to be the problem.
I'm running 2.1 on my milestone (rooted) but I've googled a bit, and other rooted people don't seem to have this problem. Does anyone know what's causing it, and, if known, how to fix it? Thanks in advance

What country are you in? Are you running a custom ROM?

It all depends on how the developer set the app up. If they excluded something it may be impossible for you to download it.

I just looked it up on my rooted EU Milestone in the UK and I found it.

Hmm, damn. Is there a way to (easily) uninstall that update? It didn't fix that much anyway, and I really want to be able to use desktop visualizer :/

Just flashing a stock SBF should do.

pff now I'm confused. I flashed a stock sbf (SHOLS_U2_02.31.0, of which I'm pretty sure does not contain the update) but at firmware version, it still says 2.1-update1 (flashing did succeed, it does display SHOLS_U2_02.31.0 below) Also, still no desktop visualizer in the market.
But if that won't get rid of the update, what will?

You should have 2.1 that is what the newest Milestone software is, the stuff you 'upgraded' to was not an upgrade, just a custom ROM.

Tell me what it says there starting with Firmware Configuration version and everything below that.

Looks like you reverted back to a Motorola ROM.

So where are you located? Are paid apps allowed in your country?

BTW. Let me know and I will get the app for you ayou can install it using Astro or something like that.

I live in Holland, but I'm pretty sure I got a UK milestone bundled with a different charger (this guy told me why he thought it was like that, it made sense)
Yes, I can see paid apps in the market, just not the copy protected ones (not even the free ones with a protection like Desktop visualizer (I have no idea why it has a protection, it's free anyway, but it just does))

If you could get me the apk file, that'd be awesome, but google couldn't find it for me :/

    Aaah thank you very much!
Just out of curiosity... Where did you find it? All I found when googling was some japanese and some very shady sites, so I gave up... Is there some kind of free .apk database?

so i just updated to Froyo and did not save my Apps :(

I cannot find this anywhere and ATT will not let me install it not in the market. Is there a way around this besides Rooting?
    TIA!

myself and one other uk user aren't seeing protected apps after the latest firmware drop.
i don't think the new f/w has been whitelisted by google, so we won't see some apps until they do.
luckily i still have my old G1 so can update and copy the apk over.

I don't see the copy protected apps either (Slovakia, Motorola Milestone from Expansys, EU model, updates are part of UK update) with 2.1-update1.

Seems like Motorola once again forgot to send their phone signatures to Google. I hope my Desire Z will arrive ASAP so i can get rid of Motorola Milestone from the manufacturer with worst support.

For example today i tried to download this :
Analogy Clock ~ Android Application v1.3.0 By saw2th | Lifestyle

Of course i can't see it because "This application is copy protected".

    Hey,

Just today I was looking at Desire Z too, thinking about maybe buying it.

Just being a bit wary since it has 800MHz CPU and the hinges of the keyboard do not look safe enough.
