How do we copy and paste info from and to various apps.

Info from Website, a text message, in People contact list to another app.

I have info I have sent or received in a text and want to create a contact from or phone number on a website or text message. Add to a notebook apps.
I checked the PDF manual and there is no help there either. This was so so easy to do on my ancient Treo 650 but it does not seem to be here. I even tried again after 2.2 update was installed and still no way.

I agree that copy and paste is not intuitive or easy on the Android platform.
I hate to say this but it was much easier on my old Windows Pocket PC!

Copying from the web browser isn't really the problem. It is the generic lack of support for copying accross many applications.

    Hi Everyone,

After hours of app searching none of which I could find that would work on the Desire. There is one but price ridiculously high for a function which should be seamless in the Android OS. I have updated to 2.2 but the same resolution should work with 2.1. This its a process which will definitely not have me buying a solution which might be easier. I spent most of yesterday on this and talked to all I could even HTC support. No solution however a Rep (knowledgeable at a Markham Store had the solution).

Steps below I have created in word and I am pasting here for ALL to benefit from and not cost to any of us as it should be.
    =======================================================

Copy and Paste on Desire Solved

    From Text Message you’ve received.
    1) Press and hold on the message body (content)
    2) Select FORWARD from the pop up Message Options Screen.
    3) Open PEOPLE, to add to or to create in a contact
    4) MENU button & select ADD CONTACT
    5) (In my case I am add it into a NOTE of the contact) Open ADD under Options
    6) Press & hold on NOTE field, PASTE option will appear, if not try holding on paste a 2nd time
    7) The info will have been pasted with the NOTE field.
    8) You can then copy selected text from the note area into other fields with the contact with relative ease. TIP Position the cursor at the point you which to select from prior to press & hold on it and selecting the action since the start point is defined in advance. At least that what I see happening.
    9) DONE
A similar process can be done from and email received on the Desire.

    1) Open an email to see the content
    2) Press and hold at the top or bottom of the area you which to capture text from (this selects the range to go up are down with the drag of the box parameters).
    3) When you have it select (in green shadow) press on the PAGE icon of the pop up box which is a Copy to function
    4) Then go the the app and location to paste it. EG Phone book of contacts and paste, Voila!!!
    Issue Solved without an App!!!
    Enjoy
    Ron

I bet you're right-handed. If you copy from top-left to bottom-right, your finger covers part of the text you want to copy. From the bottom-right, only the very tip of your finger might obscure the text.

There's a shorter method of copying from a text message. The first two steps are as Ron (tripplec) says:

    From Text Message you’ve received.
    1) Press and hold on the message body (content)
    2) Select FORWARD from the pop up Message Options Screen.
    3) Just tap in the part of the screen with the text in it to bring the cursor into it.
    4) Tap to put the cursor at the start or end of the text to copy
    5) Long-press to bring up the context menu and select "Select text"
    6) Tap at the end of the block of text to copy.

This can be made shorter still if instead of steps 4 to 6 you just double-tap at the start of the text and drag your finger to the end to highlight it. This does take some skill at double-tapping the exact place on the screen but can save some time.

Obviously, once you've selected your text you have to long-press then select Copy or Cut.

Now for the drawback of this shorter method. When you've copied your text to the clipboard and you press the Back key a couple of times to back out of the Messages app, it saves a draft of your unsent "message". Still, you can always go into the Drafts folder once a year and delete them all... ;-)

I actually copied and pasted a link from a twitter post into GMail last night. Was the first time I'd tried C&P on my Desire and managed it fairly easily without any problems.

From emails its a lot easier but from a text message it was not there. At least not in the options listed. Its now covered and works fine if you know the process.
