Just rooted my phone last night. Worked great so far and I was able to remove some of the bloatware, but I have a couple of questions.

    1) Will those of us that are rooted still get the 2.2 OTA when it comes?

    2) Since we are not flashing custom Roms (at least not yet) do we still need to have a recovery image on the device?

    3) If "YES" to #2 should I just do the recovery image that is default with ROM Manager?

Thanks in advance guys - I appreciate your help.

1]Rooting in and of itself didnt per se block the last OTA, and probably won't block the Froyo OTA in theory. Equally true its likely you will lose root after receiving the OTA and then you just need to re-do it.
2]Its wise to at least have one close by. I dont have one stored on my sdcard per se but I do have everything I need to restore the phone to stock on my harddrive if needed
3]ClockworkMod seems to be the preferred recovery. Here's the how to for that: Clockworkmod installation how to for windows / *nix - xda-developers
Not to mention CWM is how you can very simply and easily apply any and all these modification zips. I did the update everyone got OTA via CWM. The battery icon, the 1.2Ghz Kernal all were 3 minute installs with CWM. I'd say its a must have if you root and wanna tinker with anything next level

ok saps.... Just read over at the link you provided for CWM stuff... I think that's a bit over my head. I could probably do it since the instructions are detailed but I'm hoping I don't have to tinker with the device too much. I have rooted my phones in the past just to get them where I want them - not really to "push" their performance. I rooted this one because there are a couple of root apps that I like and to get rid of the VZW bloatware and Bing.

You said you don't have a recovery on your sd card but you have the necessary materials....what exactly are those? If I don't want to do the CWM stuff at this point what do I need to recover my phone if something should go horribly wrong?

Odin Restore files to get you to stock - xda-developers
First post basically has it all. So yeah I have odin and all the stock/restore files in a folder on my PC called Fascinate. In fact, everything on my phone/sdcard is in this folder
xda is really the crown jewel of the dev community IMO. Most of us next level pretenders like myself lurk there just mooching information and knowledge off the braintrust there.
Seriously though, I will concede that getting CWM installed is slightly more complex than mere rooting but not that much so. If you rooted Im confident you could get CWM on there. Once its there, you will thank you lucky stars. Once its on there any and all updates/zips/etc will be installed in minutes very very simply.
