Creating action shortcuts on home screen?

I've posted this a bit previously in a different area and probably not that clearly. So forgive my repeat.

I use launch center pro on my iPhone a great deal. It allows me to 'speed dial' regular tasks.

I click a google search icon and a text box comes up, I enter the terms browser loads with results

Ditto for imdb

Another icon lets me create a title calendar event

Another Skype a specific person

Or start a timer with note. Erc etc.

In reviews of that app everyone said 'oh android does this stock'

I must be thick. I see no way to do this.

Even imdb actions wont select the search field.

Any tips appreciated.

I doubt Tasker is the answer. What phone are you using? It's best to post in that forum. You should have a Google search widget on one of your homescreens that you can type in.
