Will those Google apps work with AOSP Android 2.2 as well? I figured they are pretty much universal, but it did not hurt to ask.
I was going to just grab them from that link for my flashing of AOSP Android 2.2. So, good timing on posting that.
Well I was bored tonight, so I decided to do a full complete wipe and test this final release, loaded all and all was fine until I kept getting a reboot every 30 seconds, so back to my baby AOSP !! I am sure one of the Amigos will let me know why the reboots, LOL
I updated a couple of hours ago, but did not do a wipe...not seeing any issues as of now. I've only tried using the camera though, but that worked fine...I've only noticed subtle changes so far
I only did a full wipe because I came from a different ROM, going to try to flash the 691 Kernel to see if that resolves it
Still rebooting with the kernel flash
Like deja vu
CM6 kernel boots at 691, should not be a cause of random reboots
Anyways, I would wipe and reflash again
I did twice last night, maybe I should simply do a cache and davlik wipe instead of a full wipe as mentioned, I think my phone is possessed with wipeitus, LOL
This issue always seems to happen when I do a full FR data wipe, maybe it deletes something that the Roms need to run, I don't know but I will flash again tonight with a simple cache wipe and davlik and see from there. All I have to say is Gingerbread here I come, LOL
I just updated to nightly #155. How do I jump to this correctly, please?
Just flash it like a nightly
Wipe Davlik cache and cache
woah, I spoke too soon about not having issues. My phone was fully charged last night, then around 80-90% at 2am after I used it for some time as stopwatch, etc...this morning (9am) it was off (several times in 6.0 it turned off on its own) and I then I turned it off and the battery was at 0%, and I was like WTF????
then I plugged it in and didn't turn on after a few seconds.
Now, even connected, it shows at 0% *worried*
it is now charing, but it does concern me that it went from ~80% to 0% overnight, when not in use
I have been running Fresh 2.3.3 happily on my Hero for many months (I purchased my Hero the day before the official release day in Oct 2009, and rooted it the day 2.1 became officially available from Sprint). My 1 year upgrade $ became available Oct 1, and there isn't anything Sprint has right now that I want to spend my upgrade $ on, so I figured a new ROM would help keep my interest in the Hero a little longer. Gotta LOVE ANDROID and ROOT!
So I decided to flash this last night. Flashed the google apps, so I have the market, installed Launcher Pro, Fancy Widgets (for the digital clock/weather), and Sprint VVM. Oh, and Handcent. I understand VVM causes those annoying text messages in CM6, so I will be able to block them in Handcent. Been using Handcent all along anyway. I am also running OC widget at 710 (awake).
First very early impressions:
At this point, I think I still like Sense UI better. As it has been mentioned, one can get different apps that help make this "look" similar to, and act similar to Sense. In my opinion, HTC did a fantastic job with Sense, and I plan to be flashing the first STABLE, FULLY working Froyo rom that includes Sense on my Hero...if I don't find my "dream" upgrade before that.
The notification bar looks very downgraded from Sense. Admittedly, I was using Kelmar's battery circle with %.
Not so sure I like the horizontal swipe to unlock. It seems that I frequently also swipe the home screen at the same time, requiring me to hit the home button, or swipe again to get to the main home screen. I read in the "setting up CM6" post from Andy, that flashing one of the custom kernels may help with a lock screen lag. Maybe this is what I am experiencing. I'll re-read that long thread. I dunno yet, I'll have more time to play with it today.
Tried the camera this morning, and I have to say that it seems much nicer than what I had been using with 2.1 (Fresh). Not sure if this because of Froyo, or CM6, but the controls seem much more user friendly.
Almost every time I swipe to unlock, I get an OC widget message. "OC Widget has been granted Super User permissions" I have it set to suppress notifications.
I've only made a few quick phone calls..haven't received any yet. I like the new dialer and "in call" screen. With Fresh, hitting the red Power Button during a call, wakes up the screen, with CM6, it ends the call. It seems that the Menu button will do this on CM6. This will just take some adjustment on my part.
Keyboard "seems" more accurate. I had been using XDA keyboard with voice.
That's it for now. I will either edit this post with updates, or post new ones with future impressions as I get more fully setup and have more time with CM6.
If you feel the need for speed, give AOSP a try also for kicks and let me know what you think
First question for those familiar with CM6 for some time. I setup my many email accounts in what I think is the stock email app. I am not getting the green LED light blink with new emails. I have gone thru the setup for each account, and have the notifications on, but these only show in the notification area, meaning the phone has to be awake... Any Ideas? (so far, I think I like the HTC email app better)
Maybe, but I am not realy a big fan of tinkering. I like to get it setup, working like I want, then enjoy...It took me many months to root (maybe not as long as you, Don... ), then many months to try CM6...
NP, you can always flash back, Nandroid is your friend as we say in the 3 Amigos, just flash it and take a look, simply set LP, then set it up for one screen and watch the phone fly.
Ive used CM6 for a while and now decided to try AOSP. Ill probably never change. Its just so fast, and i have not had any problems so far. Even boot up is fast.
I dont need all the bling. all i need is good, fast, and reliable. AOSP has supplied.
