I was trying to take some screen shots. And I got this message

    56:44 E/adb: ADB server didn't ACK
    56:44 E/adb: * failed to start daemon *
56:44 W/ddms: 'adb start-server' failed -- run manually if necessary

Dalvik Debug Monitor starts up. But, I don't see my phone listed under device. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong?
    Thanks

I know this is an old post, but this might help others who are facing the same problem.

    The solution is:
Go to the folder where "adb.exe" is located. Copy the path of the folder where it is located, for example in my case it was - D:\android-sdk-windows\platform-tools. Run the command prompt as an administrator and locate to the path you copied earlier.

So, in the command prompt you should be shown this:
    D:\android-sdk-windows-old\platform-tools>

Now type: "adb start-server" in the command prompt and press enter. You will get message like "* daemon started successfully *". That's all. Now you should retry to run ddms.bat and it should show your device in the list of Dalvik Debug Monitor. Now to see the screen of your phone click on Device menu and click on Screen Capture. You can use refresh button to view the updated screen...
