Is there anyone out there that has obtained a Desire direct from T-Mobile (UK) proper, rather than buying an unbranded one and sticking a T-Mobile SIM in it?

If so, could one of you try popping a non-T-Mob SIM in it and see if the phone comes SIM-locked or not for me please?

    Many thanks!

When I collected my phone on Saturday the sales guy did say it was locked to T-mobile.
Hope I can get an unlock from them later in the year, I always use a local sim-card when on holiday.

Not wanting to sound petty but:

I did try a search. Noone had asked that question. I am aware it CAN be unlocked. I was attempting to find out if it actually NEEDED to be. I assumed it would be, but you know what they say about assumptions.

Oh, also to those with a T-Mob UK phone - how much T-Mobile branding crap is there on the firmware? Is it full of nonsense, or is it pretty clean?

I have a t-mobile Desire, there are only 2 differences from what I can see. The splash screen on boot up, and the internet icon is different. Nothing else is changed from what I can see.
Only difference will be that updates will be a bit delayed as t-mobile will have to update it with their "changes" before we can have it.
Also, I unlocked mine, using it on orange.
