I know the Dec community will soon enough have gingerbread running on most of the top selling smartphone, but for someone like who chooses not to root, does anyone know or think that HTC will release an official update? That's considering that the N1 will be getting the update soon and the desire is its brother, besides the desire is fast enough and new enough to run the new version. I would be very disappointed if HTC decide not to update the desire.

    Thanks in advance.

...and they're never particularly forthcoming with that kind of information.

On a side note, there are plenty of threads that ask this question.

im not fussed really, there isnt apparently too much difference between 2.2.1 and 2.3
adamG has already prebaked an alpha ginger bread rom call gingerninja.
lots of things not working but the point is, the community is rapid and will have one up very quickly

Absolutely, the update to 2.2 (for Flash) was a big one, this isn't so major for me personally. I can wait until a Custom Rom is available for sure:eek:

Actually, most of them are built from Souce (AOSP).

I know Richard Trip of Defrost isn't even planning on waiting on Cyanogen to build it. He will build it himself / use an alternative base.

I think I am going to switch to Cyanogen now because I prefer the stock UI to Sense UI. Don't get me wrong Sense UI is really nice but I prefer to start with a clean system and then customise from there.

Don't expect HTC to upgrade Desire to Gingerbread any time soon.

    My prognosis: March 2011.

    HTC Desire Android 2.3 update
We've contacted HTC to find out when Android 2.3 will be coming to the HTC Desire (and the HTC Desire HD and the HTC Desire Z).
HTC responded on 7 December to confirm that a number of its phones will be receiving Android 2.3.
"We are excited about the OS update coming for Android, and while HTC will definitely have some phones running this OS, we do not have a specific timeframe for new phones or updates at this time. Please stay tuned for more details," said an HTC spokesperson.
Still no official word on the Desire, but we have to wonder whether the smartphone star is included in "some phones".

Nothing offical in terms of dates, but just passing the message on.

I don't want to rain on anyone's parade, but past and present Hero owners know what I'm talking about.

    (hint: 1.5 --> 2.1)

Yep. ...and I am disappointed that the Hero 2.1 official release had things missing if compared to the desire's 2.1 Stupid things like stock messaging app, the inability to set sms / mms thread limits...

I mean seriously, why ommit that?
