    Hello everybody.
I am reading the forum since a couple of weeks and I really must thank you all for the huge amount of information I got!!

I wanted to ask something, though, since I was not able to find a definitive answer here (and elsewhere), probably also because I fail to understand some technical details...
I am really interested in buying a Desire in Italy, but I am going to move to China soon and for long time. Will the mobile work fully there (meaning also 3g connection) or should I wait and look for something local (Chinese) that gives me high speed internet connection?

    Thank you in advance.
    Igor

No problems, as long as you're with China Unicom. European 3G bands apply.

China Mobile uses TD-SCDMA (homegrown 3G) and China Telecom uses EVDO 3G.

I got a UK Desire, but made a few trips to China with it, no problems. Mine is a unbranded sim free Desire.

    Hope that helps.

I am having no problems with mine in Beijing. China Unicom for 3G. I am using GPRS/Edge on China Mobile and it is fine (you have to get an M-Zone plan, not the more popular EasyOwn plan if you want use of maps and the market over GPRS).

Thank you very much, your information (all of yours) sure helped!

Do you know if there is a lot of difference among the calling rates of China Unicom and China Mobile?
Anyway, I guess edge will be enough for my needs...

    Cheers

I just bought a UK version of the HTC Desire in HK this weekend and i've come back to GZ, China. Im on a plan with China Unicom for 3G. My TP2 worked fine on it. But my Desire doesn't seem to automatically connect to the 3G network. Any ideas would be helpful...

Make sure you have it on auto for 2G and 3G.
