I was going to tell you that it wouldn't as it doesn't have the connectors but now it seems that it does (maybe the one I saw without was a prototype?).

If it has the connectors I would be fairly sure that it will work on the dock as the dimensions are pretty much identical.

I am mighty confused now. Techradar's review Hands on: HTC Desire review | News | TechRadar UK on the last pic clearly shows no dock connectors. The picture in the OP was taken from that article about the silver Desire being released in Norway/Finland (??). So perhaps a two different versions are being made?

Guess there is only one way to find out!

I guess it must have been an earlier model/prototype. I'm quite pleased to see the dock connectors return as I'll probably pick one up at some point.

Hmmm. Very interesting then. It would appear there are two versions of the Desire floating about? Many reviewers noted that the dock connectors were missing and lots of pics from MWC showed they weren't there. But more "recent" (I am guessing) pics show otherwise.

Having seen videos of some with dock connectors I would be really disappointed if I ordered one and it didn't have them.

That probably just runs off the phone's USB port rather than the dock connector and if so won't trigger the dock mode software.

I know I have made the point in the OP but another pic featured in a review from a Russian site.

Mobile-review.com HTC Desire (Bravo) - first look

I have been googling and can't seem to find any proper/official Google/HTC docks for the N1 yet anyway. Would be really nice if it did have the connectors, as I would want the car dock, so you could use the satnav and keep the juice levels high when you get out the car at the other end. Oh and a bedside dock too. And one for the office of course... And one for the kitchen .... ...

I've posted about this on another site but no one seems to have a clue.

One thing you will notice is that every Desire version with N1 style contacts on the bottom has a red ring around the camera on the back. Every Desire without contacts has a graphite coloured ring (pretty much the same as the rest of the body) around the camera.

There is definitely two versions (not including the silver and black) of the graphite Desire floating about.

But like EnochRoot, I haven't found anything yet (apart from this thread!). Would be great to have it as standard for docks and such.

Well spotted! Only one question left - which version is in the UK?

    That red ring is strange.
Why would they add that to a brown phone?

I don't mind the red ring at all. Accepted, it's not to everyone's taste.

Though if it's a case of getting extra functionality for docks and having to put up with the red ring (even if I don't like it) then I'll have the extra functionality!

This is the reply from HTC

Thank you for choosing to contact HTC Europe.

The HTC Desire comes with a USB connection and not a dock connector.

And regarding the red circle around the camera it’s nothing we have seen here but it can be different from what country you buy the phone. But since the phone is not yet out it’s hard for us to explain that at the moment. If you wait till the device has been released I can give you more accurate information.

I hope this has answered your questions.

If there is anything else you need from us, please feel free to contact us again.

Looking at the competition winners video, I don't think any Tmobile handsets will have docking pins or a red ring round the camera

Disappointing really considering a version clearly exists with the dock connectors.

My own response from HTC. I thought I'd change the question slightly and simple ask where can I get one, since answers often depend on the question asked:

    "Dear Sir.

The images you have seen may have been prototypes since the device is not released yet.
You can check the phone when it comes out on the 6 of April.
Then you can see for yourself how it looks like.

    Thanks for contacting HTC Europe"

Now, I took 2 things from this:

    1. He's not sure about those Desire versions with the N1 style contacts.
    2. No one seems to agree on when the Desire is officially coming out. T-Mo says it's selling today and in shops on Monday. Devicewire recently said stocks will be in on Monday. Amazon lists 1st April. Etc etc.

Oh well, we tried. I guess it's now let to wait for the contact-less version.
