Desire Z or Desire HD?General

Hey, I'm due for an upgrade soon and with the announcement of the HD and Z I have a very hard choice. ATM I have a HTC Hero and with 2.1 it's become sluggish with some apps like Handcent and the camera, this is what I think might happen with the Desire Z when 3.0 comes out. But it has a physical keyboard which is what I've always wanted on a phone because when typing a text message in landscape on the Hero, the whole screen gets taken up by the keyboard with no text to refer to. And a touchscreen keyboard does get on my nerves. So thee question; Do I go for the power of the HD that will cope with anything I'll be able to throw at it but slightly annoying touch keyboard or the Z with the physical keyboard but less cpu and ram!?

    up tp you! :D

I've ordered the HD as it will be at least as good as the desire with a bigger onscreen keyboard. I think the Desire is a superb phone but do need slightly bigger buttons on screen.

Yeah true, the landscape keyboard is a bit small and the HD screen is huuuge! I'm still in two minds...to keyboard or not to keyboard, that is the question.

I'm going for HD - I've got used to using on-screen keyboards after years of working on Nokia's Communicator's, then E71 and BB's. HD ftw :)

hmmm, Word has it that the Z won't be upgraded to gingerbread 3.0!? Anyone else heard this?

    Also pre ordered the HD.
I was honestly waiting for a good international droid phone with a keypad...along comes the Z. However, studying the HD and visualizing all the things I can do with it I would be a dip to pass it up!

what are the things you can do on the HD that u can't on the Z?

I'm guessing browsing, watching vids and playing games will be a much more fun experience on my HD rather than a Z. Then again that is just my opinion. :)

Yeah that's true. I'm just wondering if the Z will be upgraded to 3.0 and how it will handle flash games with less cpu and ram. But having that keyboard is really drawing me in.

I would assume you can pretty much do the same things but the desire z specs will be less than the desire HD.

Yeah the desire Z spec is less than the HD, but I'm really finding it hard to choose between the two. My brain says HD, of course, but I just want the Z. I just don't want the Z to go down the same root as the Hero and become sluggish in later life and/or get looked over for updates etc.

I am coming from Nokia and Blackberry, both with physical keyboards. I was a bit unsure of touch screen keyboards until I started playing around with them. I have messed with the Desire and it is actually very easy to get used to. Plus, I have used an IPhone and trust me, you will be texting faster in no time.

Something in my gut tells me the HD will have more support due to more people using the phone. Not only will we receieve extra help around the net but I think the handset will outperform the Z as time goes on.

Just a heads up guys, you can't just look at clock speed for performance, just like a 4 ghz penguin 4 is a lot slower than a 3.5 ghz core i7, the desire z is running a new generation chip which means that it can process more in each clock cycle than the snapdragon processor in the hd. So the z's chip is just as fast as the snapdragon despite having a lower clock speed. What it does mean is that because it's running at 800 MHz instead of 1ghz is that it uses less power, which means more battery life. If you overclock the z it will be faster than an overclocked hd. RAM is another matter, but the hd,s processor will be obsolete slightly before the desire z's ;)

Just thought you guys should know.

Yeah I've been reading that the Z 800mhz chip beats the old snapdragon 1ghz chip but the HD has the new 1ghz, so it'll still be faster. But it kind of answers the question to if 3.0 would come to the Desire Z. As for ram, its got the same as the normal Desire and more than the HD2 so it'll fair pretty well. My mind has now been made up ^_^

I will agree with most on here, It's mainly up to you which you prefer.

If you can't decide, wait until they are released and have a play on them.

If you prefer keys to press on then Desire Z maybe your best bet. If you are not fussed, then I would lean on the Desire HD

I thought that 3.0 wasn't coming to any phone with less than 1Ghz processor!?!? Theoretically faster or not.

I probably got that wrong though.
