I just want to compile all of the differences between these very similar handsets.

    OS
    Desire Z - Sense 2.2
    G2 - Stock Android 2.2

    Internal Storage
    Desire Z - 1.5GB
    G2 - 4GB

    3G Frequencies
    Desire Z - Band I: 900/2100 Mhz
    G2 - Band IV: 1700/2100 Mhz

    Has anyone noticed any others?

HTC Desire Z Vs T-Mobile G2: Same, but Different | Mobile Phone Blog
    Display:
You may find both phones offer the same 480 x 800 pixels and 3.7 inches of screen size, but there will be different type of display you get. Desire Z brings S-LCD capacitive touchscreen with 16M colors out, while G2 has TFT capacitive touchscreen with 16M colors. The rest of the display features, Desire Z offers a better sight by its HTC Sense UI.

    This is wrong.

The internal storage on both is 4gb, but the storage is partitioned and only 1.5 GB is useable on either device. Checked XDA forums. They had a poll and everyone with a G2 will tell you it's 1.5 GB.

How much of the 1.5GB is available after system apps etc take their part? The memory left on my Desire - even after 2.2 - is abysmal, and the only reason why I'm looking to move on.

Well I downloaded about 20 new apps...

I've got 0.98 GB left. Some apps you can move to SD. I have a bunch of the rooting apps like visionary, gscript, astro that need to be on the system ROM.

EDIT: and as to the last post above me there is an FM radio option on the Desire Z.

BTW over at XDA forums there's a new kernel that allows for overclocking the DZ. Got mine running at 1.4 Ghz now. :)
