I have a non-rooted Droid 2 and the Desk/Home dock. When I first tried it out, it worked as expected--starting the home dock screen when placed in the dock. However, I now find that whenever I dock the droid, the notification bar shows that it is connected to the multimedia dock but it does not start the dock application. I used Astro to browse the /system/apps folder and found the Dock app- clicked on Open App manager and then Launch at which point I get a message saying "Activity not found com.motorola.dlauncher". I don't know if this is why nothing is happening when I dock the Droid but can anyone tell me why this suddenly stopped working and what I can do to get it working again?

Given the effort I have expended during the past 3 weeks to get this phone setup and working with my email accounts and all of the apps loaded, I would rather toss the dock than have to start over after a hard reset. This is one area that iPhone bests Android...no easy way to backup the phone's image and restore it.

Get Appbrain and sync your apps.

Are you using the app. "Desk Home"? If so for some reason if the setting is ever triggered by a magnet as designed the app won't work anymore. However all is not lost just turn your phone off and then back on and it will dock as soon as it is plugged into the charger. Don't know why it just seems the way it is.

Oops just re-read and saw you are using a dock and not the charger to activate it.

Interesting....yes I tried triggering it with a magnet jsut to see if it did the same as the dock which it did (how could it tell the difference)?). How do I get the app working again? Power cycling does not help.

I think I sent you down the wrong road. I thought that you were using an app called Desk Home as I do. This app mimics the Motorola dock and puts it in desk mode when you connect the charger and does have a problem launching after you use a proper dock. You are right though even as smart as our phones are they can't tell one magnet from another and many times I have used one to show friends what it does. However it has never caused a problem with my phone itself just the app from the market.

Sorry about the misdirection hopefully someone smarter than me will read this thread and have an answer for you.

The app is Desk Home but it is in /System/App and I believe it is the app which gets launched when the Droid is in the real home dock (of course you could also run it manually to see what the dock does(. The problem is that this app is no longer working (as documented in earlier msgs). If it did indeed disable itself, the question is, how to re-enable it. If it has changed state then the only thing I could think of was to Clear Data on the app but that did not help.

Not sure, I have both a D1 and a D2 and I messed with both. Put a magnet next to the sensors to dock mode them and then plugged in the chargers. The D1 appears to be unaffected by this and functions correctly. The D2 however would not dock even though it showed that it was. After turning the D2 off and back on it functioned as it should when plugged into the charger. The only thing I can think to do would be to uninstall the app and then reinstall it to see if that clears it up. The nice thing about Google's app store is that you only need to buy an app once. It is tied to your Google mail account and a paid app shows as purchased so reinstalling is no biggie.

To be precise, the app is /System/App/Dock. It is part of the system software that comes with the phone. I cannot uninstall and reinstall it as far as I know. (WIthout rooting and then finding the file.) But more likely than the app itself is that the state is being stored somewhere else...but where?

Yeah we are talking about two different things ihf. I'm referring to an app I purchased in the market and you are referring to a factory function of the phone. If rebooting the phone doesn't work then the only thing I can suggest is to follow Super_Six_twos advice and do a factory reset. Its really not as bad as it seems although it does take a little work to reconfigure the phone to your liking. To be honest if you call Verizons tech support or even go into a store that is one of the first things they will do anyway.

Yes, that is what they want to do in the store but having spent 3 weeks getting this phone configured as I want it I am not interested in starting again. I will just have to forget about using the dock (at least with the moto provided app) unless someone can tell me how to get com.motorola.dlauncher working again (without wiping the phone).

    I appreciate your help.

Yes, several times. The app is there but when I try to launch it either through App Manager or by placing the Droid in the Dock, it says "Activity not found - com.motorola.dlauncher ".

Only other thing would be to back track the apps you installed. Did you happen to install one just before this started? If so maybe delete it and see if it was conflicting with the phone. Other than that I got nothing. :(

This might fix your problem: It was the last thing I found so I am putting it on top. You might get bored or frustrated it the answer was on the bottom. LOL

Also found this video about the dock. Your problem may be as simple as dragging the notification bar down and choosing "multimedia". It is about 4:05 into the video that it explains this.

I have been playing with this. I used astro as you did to launch the app and received the same response. The difference is that I do not have a dock. So, are you trying to launch it while in the dock or out of the dock. Try in the dock.

I am rooted and use Titanium Backup, DeskHome 2.2 is listed in Titanium but there is no way to launch it.

When use Root Explorer and look at Dock.apk, I get a message "this is a package installer. What action would You like to perform?" The three choices are Install, View, & cancel. I chose view and it lists four files: AndroidManifest.xml, META-INF, res, & resources.arcs.

I googled and found this post:
    http://androidforums.com/motorola-droid/28409-dumped-2-more-apps-today-dock-apk-cardock-apk.html
You can get a fresh copy downloaded from this site. Not sure if you need to be rooted to install it, but I do not see why you could not install it from the sd card download folder in the event your file is corrupt.
