I'm looking for a dock for my HTC Desire to put on my desk so that I don't have to lay it flat all the time while it's not in use. I had one of these for my old iPhone and it worked great - the phone was held in place very securely and the rubber on the bottom meant the whole thing didn't slide around.

However, I'm finding it difficult to locate a good equivalent for my HTC Desire. All I want is something to stand the phone up while it is connected to my computer - I don't need bonus battery charging (I only have one and it's inside the phone). There seem to be a few on eBay but the quality looks dubious at best. Has anyone bought one of these?

You might want to have a look at the range offered by Mobilefun.co.uk here: HTC Desire Desk Stands

I haven't bought any myself so I can't comment on their quality, but if you search around the forum you might find someone who has.

I like the one Vector posted - the others don't seem to give much support to the phone with only a micro usb holding it in place. Being fairly ham-fisted I could see serious damage occurring to my phone with the other versions.

I got one of [IMG]these off eBay for a tenner.

Does the job and the fit of the phone in the cradle is OK. A bit plasticky of course but it's stable enough on my desk when I use it.

That's the same version as Vector posted - at a slightly cheaper price. Nice one.

Sorry, Stucky - not quite the same. The eBay one lacks the charging point for a 2nd battery.

Do these docks work if the desire is in a protective case (e.g. case-mate or gel one), or would you have to remove the case before putting it in the dock?

I would hope that these stands are snug enough around the phone that you do need to remove any external casing. Otherwise, it would seem that the only thing really holding the phone in place is that teeny tiny USB connector. While the micro-usb-b connector, specifically, is actually designed to withstand a relatively large amount of stress through its lifetime, it would be careless to rely on that on a daily basis (especially for a desk stand that invites pressing on the screen while docked).

i also bought one of theese and there is a plastic shield on the back which takes most of the weight off the micro usb , and I have to take the case off before docking it. I also have it beside my bed so i had to take it apart and desolder the blue light which is on the front as it was really annoying me. Had a BB storm before and the quality of cradles for that was much better.

I'd like a desk dock too but one that will accommodate the gel case on my Desire, if anyone knows which one fits the bill please let me know.

Incidentally I used to have and Orange MPV600 and used a desk dock with that, eventually it ruined the mini USB port on the phone.

I bought the one off eBay that diggedy linked. It arrived the next day and I'm impressed with it. It a good stand so that the phone doesn't flex the connector, although you have to be a little careful placing it on the stand so that the connector lines up. Two issues - the blue LED is very bright, going to have to cover that, as it lights up one side of the bedroom at night! Secondly, and this is a phone issue, the keys all light up when on charge, which is pretty annoying. Not found a way to disable this, unless the HTC night clock does this, but I'm using Kaloer clock.

I really don't understand why all these cradle manufacturers think people want an LED shining in their faces all night.
