DEXT on Orange UK WIFI - 3G question

I have just got my first Android, the Dext on Orange UK/

I have installed APNDroid and Netcounter (plus a similar data management tool)

It seems all data that I am receiving/sending is being registered as 3G

My WI-FI count is zero regardless of what I do. I have tried flight mode but still get data on 3G. The only method I have found is to kill backup sync and that only seems to affect Android Market (which requests I re-enable it)

Any suggestions?
