Wizard all the way. It was the only class that I actually enjoyed playing in the beta.
Yeah, Wizard will be the second one I make. I just figured that a party with a Witch Doctor and a Wizard would be a little unbalanced.
In fact, I'll probably try all the classes, except possibly Demon Hunter. I'm not a huge fan of ranged attackers. I played all the classes in D2 except Assassin, and my Amazon used javelins/spears, not bows.
Really close now! This day is passing by very slowly.
EDIT: The D3 site's been updated, descriptions for all legendary and set items have been added. Enjoy!
It's time!!! arty::congrats::congrats::five:
It's been time! The servers have been up for hours.
I slept from 10 PM til 2 AM, then got up; the servers were scheduled to go online at midnight PST, which is 3 AM eastern. Unfortunately, when they opened, there was a massive traffic influx, so many people just couldn't connect. Thankfully, my friends and I managed to all get in after a while and create characters, and played until not too long ago. Now time for work.
As I thought, the Monk is totally epic. He's so fast, and does crazy amounts of damage. I got up to level 10, and have already unlocked some great skills and corresponding runes.
Lol, I played for a good 10 minutes this morning before I left for work. Joined a buddy's server and leeched XP. Got me to level 6
Can't wait to get some more game time in tonight maybe.
Played more last night, got to the end of Act I. Explored every inch, even all the optional caves, so I'm way overleveled -- level 16 when I logged off. Loving this game so far, it keeps some of the best elements of D2 and makes it way more visually appealing. I do miss the old skill point system a little bit, I enjoyed the uniqueness from a very specific skill build that would completely eschew unneeded skills and allow you to overpower your chosen skills slightly by loading all the points into those. But at the same time, being able to try every skill your class offers and having it scale to your level and difficulty (instead of pumping points in) so that it's immediately viable is very nice.
EDIT: Also, the monk is still awesome. Crippling Wave as left-click with Lashing Tail Kick + Vulture Claw Kick rune as right-click is devastatingly nasty. Basically turns the monk into a whirling dervish that hits everything around him.
You guys are making me jealous! I want to play so bad. I'll be getting D3 at the end of the month. Can't decide if I want to watch YouTube videos of D3 or wait until I play the game myself. Don't want to ruin my first time experience from watching YouTube videos.
I watched YouTube videos of the beta prior to release; it's the first third of Act I, so it didn't reveal too much. If you can, find videos from the last patches (Beta Patch 16-18 - 16 was the last major patch, 17 and 18 were minor); the game changed a great deal between the beginning and end of the beta, and you don't want to watch an outdated video. It helped me get a feel for the gameplay without giving away much of the story.
Yeah, I finished my finals early so I've been playing a lot at night time when I get home from work. Beat all acts on Normal, but haven't started Nightmare difficulty yet. My gear is ridiculous, but I bailed on my Wizard. The class just was too boring at the start and I didn't want to work on gearing him up. I went with a Barbarian instead. I'm about 3/4 of the way to lvl 27.
Unfortunately, a combination of lack of time and, to a lesser extent, continued Blizzard server trouble has kept me offline. But I fully intend to play a great deal this weekend and next week. I can't wait to see more of the plotline.
Major spoilers for those who haven't played the game yet:
I was really sad about Deckard Cain. I thought that guy would live forever.
Lol, just wait until you get a bit further. Act 3 just blows your mind.
Wow, way to ruin it.
Been playing when I can fit it in (not as much as I would like). Got a level 15 barbarian. I'm enjoying it.
Anyone tried the auction house yet? I put up a rare crossbow that the Act I boss dropped on there last night. If you think about it, it could be used quite effectively: since items sell for basically nothing in-game, you can simply sell it in the auction house for a couple hundred (or more depending on rarity) - buyers get a better price than in-game merchants (again, depending on rarity), and sellers make more gold than they would selling in-game.
I have with moderate success. I sell the items for cheap because nobody is really going to pay out the wazoo for Normal gear. I find tons of rare gear drops, but mostly give away to friends.
I really think that's going to be huge once players realize how useful it can be. I put the bidding minimum for my rare crossbow at 1000, and the buyout at 5000. So let's say the final auction price is like 1300 gold, or something. That's still way more than I would make selling it in game, and a rare for 1300 is a major steal for the buyer. The merchant I found in one of the optional caves who sold rare items was asking for 3-4K gold apiece.
I'm curious as to how bad the server issues were for you in America. It wasn't too bad here in Europe, plus I didn't play until the day after release, but by the sound of it the game was mostly unplayable for you guys on day 1.
I couldn't play day 1, and day 2 was hit or miss. After that no issues.
Haven't had any issues playing at all outside of server maintenance
For those of you who bought the box version for PC, do you have to have the CD to play? Reason im asking is i want the collectable version, but i dont want to use the CD to play. Am i better off buying the digital version?
It was pretty rough for the midnight launch. Took over an hour to finally get on.
After you buy the collectible version, you can still download the software that will make it possible to play without the CD, so no worries there.
Your purchase is linked to your battle.net account, so you'll get a redeemable code in the box that activates the game on your account. Once the game is installed, the CD is useless, essentially.
I bought the physical copy of star craft 2 and it's the same deal, I can download the game digitally and log in using my battle.net details to play.
Just got my first legendary drop yesterday night. Unfortunately for me, the rare belt I own is already better than the legendary drop I received. The AH is a bit sketchy on sale prices, so I have no idea what to sell it at. It's a level 32 item :-\ (for Barbs)
It's amazing how much the items jump (stat wise) once you reach level 40+ on Nightmare Act 3.
