So I was thinking about the fact that Verizon changed the phone I purchased by adding apps with the froyo update. Can you deny the update to froyo? Not that I know of without getting the popup every half an hour. I purchased this phone outright when it came out and want to get a droid 2 and was thinking about ways the exchange this phone.

I guess what I am trying to say is; can I go to Verizon and say that they either need to change my phone back to the purchased item or take a return and give me a refund?

I am ASSUMING this and wanted to know if anyone knows of any laws about this?

Verizon has the right to update/grade any phone they want, when they want to and you cant do anything about it otherwise. They are going to tell you that unfortunately. Thats not to say you can try different stores and get what you want. I've done it with getting new phones, old phones replaced, etc. If it doesn't work at one store, try another until you get what you want. But keep in mind, they do reserve the right to upgrade the phone and add/remove apps, the phone is not unlocked, it is linked with the carrier.

Good luck though, post what happens.

You're looking for a law protecting consumers from companies ruthlessly ADDING features to there products? You realize you're a lunatic, right?

They aren't making you USE any of them...and if it really bothers you, root and remove them.

No need to call OP names (like lunatic). It does sound like you are trying to find a loophole to exchange to a different phone. If the update causes your phone not to work, they will most likely tell you to hard reset and then replace it if that doesnt work.

As for adding bloatware, I bet when you buy the phone that they add in the right to do it in the contract you sign. Just a guess.

For what it is worth, the Droid 2 doesnt impress me at all. If I change phones it would be to Droid X or Fascinate.

A rooted Samsung would be the only way. Their version of Android is simply awful. My buddy has the TMO version and is a little unhappy with it, he hasnt rooted yet.

My boss has the D2 and she gave it to me for a day to set it up. Its quadrant benchmarks blew my rooted DINC out of the water and if it was rooted I wouldnt mind it at all. Seems a little more sturdy and durable (pretty sure thats just the weight of the added keyboard). The X is simply too big but I like it.

    IMO it goes: INC > D2 > X > Fascinate

Haven't tried it yet and not really sure I will. I was being hypothetical as I am extremely happy with my Incredible. I can't really see a phone coming out that I would trade it for and thats big for me because I have been through five Androids and have only been happy with one(this one). Thanks for the info though!

Why are you wasting useful air that the other respectful humans and dogs for that matter use?

Thanks for the backup. I am sure that somewhere in my contract they reserve the right to invite me to dinner and then feed me shit too, but there has to be a way to get out of the dinner once I'm there ya know.

Not sure what you mean by "A rooted Samsung would be the only way." What way is that? To return the phone? To get instead of the Incredible? Not really a fan of Samsung anyways for what thats worth.:(

Thank's for all of the replies. I just wanted to know if there is anything we can do about a paid for(not leased) phone that gets changed after purchasing if you have any more ideas throw them out!

FramCire commented about how he would switch to the X or Fascinate. Thats why I was saying a rooted Samsung would be the only Samsung I would accept. My reasoning follows...

So phones like the Nexus 1, G1, G2 come with Stock Android as their UI. All HTC phones come with Sense and all Motorola phones come with either MotoBlur (Droid) or NinjaBlur (X, D2).

Sense, Moto/Ninja Blur are home launchers basically, like LauncherPro, ADW, etc. with added perks like Scenes on HTC devices.

On the flipside of the coin, Samsung does much more to the UI than simply change the Home Launcher. It has an entirely new interface over the top of stock android. They do this for all of their phones, including feature phones and even on the WinMo phones (ie Omnia).
