I know you can change and have separate ringtones for separate contacts and separate notification tones for text vs email but can you have separate notifications for text messages? I would like to have my twitter messages as silent but all other text messages have an alert. Thanks for any help.

None - Twitter messages just come via text. I don't really post anything to Twitter, just follow thing like the news, sports, etc...

Handcent allows you to select different notification sounds for different people, in the Notification Settings for that person.

MicButton at the android market also lets you set different notification tones for different contacts.
