No you'll have to flash back to stock.

Actually, I did not block OTA updates in Velocity because research has proved the blocking them wastes too much battery. If OTA updates are blocked, the device will continuously search for an update.

When the Froyo OTA first drops, I'll immediately root it so that you can install it just like a ROM while I work on an updated version of Velocity based on it.

Well Trident how about this question.
I had your velocity Rom by using Drellisdee's Recovery 1.2.2
However I took it back off until your froyo velocity comes out. I flashed it back to my Nandroid of my original phone. So I have a multi question. Will having Drellisdee's recovery on my phone block OTA updates? Will Having my old Rom nanadroid ensure my ota froyo?
My guess is yes I will still get the OTA because the recovery system from drellisdee is just like in the bios of a computer and really does not have anything to do with os updates.
    Thanks Bro

The recovery has nothing to do with OTA updates.

I wouldn't recommend installing the OTA update if you intend to turn around and install a custom ROM..

There's not telling if we'll be able to root the new update in a timely manner.. or at all.

    Woah,

You can install a signed OTA update and retain your recovery image?

Correct me if I am wrong but isnt the recovery rooted?

If the recovery stays intact than you should be able to perform an OTA update, reboot into recovery, open a shell to your phone, mount the necessary filesystems and push over the SuperUser.apk

I was under the impression that the only things you need to be "rooted" is the superuser.apk file and the su script in the correct locations.

After I installed the first Motorola Droid 2.2 update, I was shocked to find that my recovery had been flashed to the stock recovery.. now this doesn't happen with all phones, but theres a decent chance that Verizon could pull the same thing with the Ally.
