Do you think this will be rootable?

I'm currently on an iPhone 5 and I'm getting sick of the small screen and lack of innovation. The G2 looks like the phone to beat this fall, and I'm wondering whether, based on LG-on-Verizon history, will this be rootable?

I have no experience with LG phones on Verizon, so I'm asking for input from those who might know.

    Thanks!

Haha, why am I not surprised to see you again? ;)

I would hope with the combination of top notch specs and a subpar skin, the incentive to root the G2 will be very high. I have confidence the devs will succeed.

    Hey man!

Yeah, I'm getting sick of the iPhone, but I need a phone I can tether with. The HTC One caught my eye, but it's locked down tighter than a gnat's butt.

So it's either this or the note 3.

I think it will and I'm basing it on this: if you go look at CyanogenMods website, there are many LG phones that are listed with their ROM. I see some Verizon models as well as the previous Optimus G model. So I think there is hope; I'll be picking this phone up as well.

Seems reasonable. It's between this one and the Note 3 for me. I need a nice big screen after being on the iPhone 5 for a while.

    But root is a must.

Hey man..............remember you from the infamous VZW Galaxy Nexus thread. I personally had no luck at all with that phone, be it VZW or GSM. BIG disappointment, to me at least.

I also am looking at either of these 2 phones. Leaning toward the Note III because I think it may get more dev support...........who knows. I currently have the S3 on AT&T and love the thing. Time to move on however to something better/different. The current S4 was just not that big of an upgrade so I am waiting. Might wait for the stats on the Nexus 5 also?

Take care and enjoy whatever you decide to buy :)

What's up Han. Still prosecuting the scumbags?

    Seriously though, iPhone?

I'm interested in the LG G2 as well. But this time I'm waiting a bit. Waiting for both a lot of user reports to come out, and the root/unlock question. Also waiting for information on the Nexus 5, which at this point may be a lower spec'd G2. Either way, I'm not going to be a Day 1 adopter.

    Hey buddy, how's it going?

No longer prosecuting. I'm in government work though, in New Mexico. Still in the law enforcement field, so I still get to put scumbags away, lol.

I'm torn between pre-ordering the Note 3 tomorrow morning and waiting to pick up the G2 on the 12th.

With Foxfi, I'm not in urgent need of root.

    Ugh. Decisions decisions!

Verizon locks the bootloader on every phone the release. Most obtain root, but getting around the locked bootloader always remains a question. With Verizon and what seems to be AT&T these days, you have to buy your phone knowing full well that you might never get a bootloader exploit.

Yes and no. Yes if you buy motorola's. Usually every other phone has a quick turnaround. As it stands the korean version has root. So, i'm sure Verizon's will have it quickly. Bootloader I have a feeling won't be too bad.

I think this phone will have enough popularity, it'll get the attention of the serious devs. The ones that unlock bootloaders on a regular basis. I'd put money on this one being opened up at LEAST early on until they patch it down the line.

I am kinda surprised there isn't more activity in this forum though. Figured this might be the choice of a lot of expiring Gnexer's. I'm thinking seriously about pulling the trigger on this one. Anything known about battery life yet?

I feel the same way. This forum got really low buzz compared to other G2 forums. It seems a lot of Gnexers went to Moto X and don't think about other options. It's understandable as X looks like nicely upgraded Gnex with similar look and feel.

I feel the same way. I thought for sure after the announcement this forum would explode. Seems xda and android central have a bit more activity.

Seems there may be a disconnect with some of the people who come to the site for news. If you read some of the LG news they seem a bit clueless to the device specs.

I just hope this phone delivers. I've seen some pics and they look decent a bit soft but hopefully its a firmware thing or a korean thing. Video's looked pretty good but apparently there is a breathing issue with the OIS. We shall see. This is my ideal device as far as bezels and the like go.

Pretty sure I am moving to this phone.

Thought for sure that I would be replacing my Gnex with the 5 but this phone, if as good as advertised is absolutely what I have been wanting. Basically great camera and big battery. Combine it with off the chart specs and the G2 has it all...at least hope that it does.

It will be disappointing if the phone is locked down hard... Not sure if locking down a phone is in the best interest of the manufacturer.

I was thinking about getting this phone but after the Note 3 announcement I got excited and pre-ordered it.

I may still cancel the pre-order if the G2 blows me away when I go to Verizon on the 12th to look at it. . . .

I can tell you as a VZW Gnex'er that I'm still clinging on to the notion that the Nexus 5 could come to VZW... I know I know... pipe dreams. Right now this is the phone I'll most likely end up with, but I'm still waiting til all the phones are out for the rest of the season before making my decision. Plus I want to see how much dev support this phone gets as it will be a big part of my decision making.

I like the way you think but I'm feeling like the odds are incredibly low that vzw will see the Nexus 5. I'm not sure if they ever confirmed/denied reports of a possible N5 going through FCC, but it didn't have hardware indicative of vzw usage.

Wow, I see names I recognize here from the Droid Incredible days. :)

I was thinking Note 3 or G2 but I don't think I can deal with the size of the Note 3 so I'm going with the G2 to replace my GNex. I figured there's no shot at getting the Nexus 5 on Verizon so I'm hoping this gets dev attention being close to the N5 in specs. The thing that scares me about LG is the lack of support for software upgrades, at least based on their track record. I've been spoiled by owning the GNex, even despite the delays being on Verizon, due to the strong dev community support so this is a must in the next phone. If Samsung refreshed the S4 with the S800 processor and LTE-A, I'd just go that route. The G2 will be my first smartphone sans OLED (Incredible, Charge, GNex). I'm also worried about missing the deep blacks on my phone.

I think there is good chance for you to do that!
It seems to be well received by many reviews and PA poll below has G2 on top. They also did bunch of camera shootouts among new phones and to my eye G2 camera does very well.

The best Android phone out there now: which one is it? (poll results)

I'm getting real close to pulling the trigger on this one. These are going to be the top specs for awhile. Barring the extremely unlikely event that the Nexus 5 becomes available on Verizon, I'll probably be picking up a G2 late week.

Anybody know...what is the most recent LG device running JB and what root method was used?
  22. jhawkkw

    jhawkkw Chinchillin' Moderator

The most recent LG released would be the LG Enact. To my knowledge, it hasn't been rooted yet though that's probably due to lack of developer interest.

However, since I don't believe there is an LG device other than this one running 4.2.2 (excluding the Nexus 4), I don't think any current methods will work.

Ah yes, that's exactly what I was wondering. Hopefully it'll still be ok if this phone receives the attention I think and hope it does. Worst case, I run it stock for the duration. There's a first time for everything. :D

I actually already canceled my preorder. I'm going to take a long look at the G2 in the store in Thursday. If it gives me tingly sensations all over my body, I will buy it. If root is achieved within the 14 day window. If not, I don't know. I will probably return it an go with the Note 3.

Got my at&t G2 today and I'm pretty impressed. Beautiful screen, fast and I really like the button arrangement along with the knock on feature.
