Does Android 2.2 = Froyo

Yes 2.2 is froyo, 2.3 is gingerbread.

1.1 had no known codename and only shipped on the G1.

1.5 (Cupcake) Based on Linux Kernel 2.6.27

1.6 (Donut) Based on Linux Kernel 2.6.29

2.0 / 2.1 (Eclair) Based on Linux Kernel 2.6.29

2.2 (Froyo) Based on Linux Kernel 2.6.32 (2.2.2 latest release)

2.3 (Gingerbread) Based on Linux Kernel 2.6.35 (2.3.3 latest version)

3.0 (Honeycomb) Based on Linux Kernel 2.6.36

Ice cream is do out some time this year.

Great breakdown of builds. Sounds like my TMobile G2 didn't ship with latest firmware, wonder when TMobile will push Gingerbread or Honeycomb. Thanks!
T-Mobile will probably push out Gingerbread in a few months, since Gingerbread was just released a couple of months ago. For some reason, unless you have a Nexus phone, updates take quite a while to come out.

Looks like every version is named after some kind of desert. (I wonder why?) That being said, what the heck is a froyo?
