Came across a nifty little app for the Hero called WaveSecure.

It lets you remotely access your phone and can be used to back up data, lock you phone, track its position and erase all the information on it ~ potentially quite handy as your Hero can store quite a lot of personal information.

It's still in beta, and as a result is completely free to download and use. It seems pretty cool and simple to use but I've never really heard anything about it before.

    Does anyone else use it?

    I use it! :D

It's simply a must have app and I really do love it! Every Android Should have this as It can wipe data , Secure your phone when lost & you can even personalise the message when you lock it. :)

Oh yeah and it even tells you the number of the Sim card that was put in their. Very innovative

I seem to recall something about one of the custom roms including it in the customised OS itself, so it's unremovable.

I never heard of that but that will be pretty cool :)

One of my concerns is though that will this service be free forever or maybe just for the Beta?

It's not on the list of "Supported Phones" at the moment, but as the Sprint version if basically the same as the HTC Hero, aside from the appearance and a couple of slight changes to the internal gubbings, I can't see why it won't work.

You have to enter it as the international code.

In the UK the international code is +44 and then remove the first zero and put the rest of the number -

    i.e. for the UK mobile number 07123 456 789, you'd enter -

    +447123 456 789

I know there are various international codes in the US, so not sure which on you'd need.

Yes - but for some reason you have to omit the + when putting it into the website

Aahh, forgot to mention that and it also caused me to scratch my head when trying to log onto the website.

According to MoDaCo, they have said that anyone who signs up at the beginning will keep it as a free service even if it becomes a paid for market app in the future:)

As you're adding the + you don't need the 00.

Also, don't forget to remove the first digit from your cell phone number.

What are the first three digits of your cell number? Including all digits, how you would give it out to friends?

Also, I assume your in Delaware?

OK, I think this should work -

You need the USA international code (+1), the area code (302) and then your cell number minus the first digit (e.g. if you number is 01234567, you'd use 1234567)

So, following the above example, you'd use enter -

    +13021234567

You don't need the town/city code for Dover etc.

Ok that is the one that is not working. DARN

Im doing this through the Phone APP. I get the part where you input your number. Then it is verify number and waiting for SMS. It says the number can not be verified. Please try again... Then I get an error message. The application Messages (process.com.android.mms) has stopped unexpeectedly. Then I have to force close

It shows a test alert across the top of the screen, but when I got to retrieve it it is gone!!!!

This is a usability flaw in WaveSecure - we realize that now and are on our way to fixing it =)

    To address other concerns:

    1. Location not working properly: This has a few kinks and we're working on it continuously to improve it. If you encounter any specific issues, please let us know
    2. WaveSecure for Android is free. If we do make it paid in the future, we will not start to charge anyone who has already downloaded it while it was free
    3. @autorail1: If you send a normal SMS to +13021234567, does it reach your phone? Also, if you are using a CDMA network (such as Sprint), we're not sure if it will work because we have NOT tested on CDMA.

EDIT: We're currently looking for people to help us test on CDMA. If you are on Sprint or any other CDMA network, please drop us a line at android -at- tencube dot com

WaveSecure for Android is in Beta currently, we'd really appreciate any feedback you have. Head over to Customer Feedback & Ideas for WaveSecure for new feature suggestions/bug reports.
