Does everyone still have 4.1.1?General

I have my Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 set to get updates automatically, but it never has updated. I've even asked it to look for new updates and it still never finds it. I know 4.2.2 is out, and this is the last update for the Galaxy Tab 2. How do I get it or is everyone in the same boat as me? Are we all waiting?

I'm still using 4.1.1 and have the GT-P3113. Isn't this a newer model then the P3100?

I still have 4.1.1. When I click the Update button, it says the latest updates have been installed.

Ok. I'm glad I'm not the only one. Maybe we'll finally get an update someday. My tablet could really use one.

Just upgraded to 4.2.2, all seems ok, it's over 600MB and took almost an hour to download. Don't know why it took so long as my connection is OK.

Do you mean Auto-rotate screen? as my Tab has always been able to do that before this update.

I mean the home screen auto rotates. in 4.1.1 all other screens except the home screen can auto rotate, but with the update the home screen can auto rotate as well.

I just finally got to update to 4.2.2 this morning. It works a lot better, and I like it. 4.2.2 or 4.2.3 is the last update.

Still waiting in Toronto for 4.2.2.

A question for those who've now updated: can you move apps, and their related data, to your external SD card? I particularly want to move Kobo and Kindle apps and their books.

I got the update one day last week, finally. So far I like it. I'm not seeing alot of differences but it's working okay for me.

I haven't tried moving apps yet, maybe Thurs. I give it a go!

Most apps can be moved to the external Micro SD card. The Kobo app can be moved but the Kindle reader can't be moved. I believe it is a function of the app design. Most of the data from the Kindle app moves to the Micro SD card but it did that in 4.1.1. I observed that there is always a small portion of the app which remains in internal memory, 5% to 10% and the total size of the app in both internal and ext memory is larger than the original app size in internal memory only. I believe there must be a portion of the app in internal memory so that it can be launched. The apps don't automatically move so they have to be moved one at a time. I only moved those apps larger than 10 MB. My free internal memory increased from 1 GB to 2.3 GB, 50% free now. A new view has been added to the Application Managet in Settings called On SD Card which shows which apps can be moved and which have been moved to the Ext SD card and how much memory is is used for the app and its data. For example the Kindle app doesn't show on this view.

How do you tell the Kindle app that its data are now on the external card? When I move an item to the external card, it no longer appears on the list when I open the Kindle app. And when I download it again, it goes to the internal card.

You can't move anything to the ext SD card. The system does in automatically in the case of the Kindle app and in all other cases tapping "Move to sd card" in the detail of the app under the "Downloaded" or "On SD card" list under "settings" > "Application Manager".

As far as I know there is no way to get the Kindle app to look for books in a folder on the ext SD card. Some reader apps do have that option. What I was referring to was looking at the Amazon Kindle app detail in "settings" > "Application Manager" > "Downloaded" list then tap "Amazon Kindle" to display the detail. Under the "Storage" section of the detail it shows the SD card app being 0 meaning that non of the app is on the ext SD card. My Tab shows total Data of 66.42 MB and SD card data of 53.25 MB meaning that 53.25 MB of the app data (books) is on the ext SD card. I cannot locate the folder(s) on the ext SD card where any of the app and data files are stored using any file manager. The OS has hid them from view. All the Kindle books are initially stored in the Kindle Files folder in internal memory. If I want to add a book or document from a non Amazon source directly to the Tab I have to save it into that folder in internal memory. The internally memory folder Android/data/com.amazon.kindle/files still shows all the books on the device even though most of them have been moved to the ext SD card according to the Storage detail as noted above.

Thanks again for the detailed explanation. I guess I'll have to wait for 4.2.2 to put as much as I can on the external card.

Got the 4.2.2 push yesterday, finished the install last night. Central California.

So far, all I have noticed is the UI is a bit uglier.
