    Can't trust hardware vendors, they just want you to buy their latest phone. Google says no 1ghz required.

    Didn't we hear the same thing about Froyo?

    In fact, there's a thread in the Sprint Hero Root forum with a link to XDA where a developer has ported an alpha of GingerBread to the Hero.
