    Hello...

I'm new to rooting...just rooted my EVO with unrEVOked last night. Was looking to free up some space on my phone at the moment and get into some ROMs or whatnot later.

I installed and have been reading about Move2SD Enabler. I've been getting some conflicting or some yes/some no information about what I've read. I've heard that some people have problems with the apps being updated once you move a "phone only" app to the SD card with Move2SD Enabler? Is that true?? Does it happen with some phones and not others?? Some apps and not others?? People have said that the apps dont' update and have to move BACK to the phone to update??

Just looking for a little guidance/personal experience. Would HATE to take the time to move stuff to the SD only to have to move it back for updates and keep track of all that back and forth and versions....

    THANKS!!

Follow up question...other than the need to make sure one follows the typical warning with moving apps to the SD card, like making sure that any apps using widgets stay on the phone, are there any apps that do not INTUITIVELY suggest that they should remain on the phone?? Any apps that I should DEFINITELY keep on the phone??

I stay clear of apps like this as why run an app and leave it running all the time so it can alert you to things when the OS can do it without one.

You can move things yourself with OS 2.2 under settings, applications, manage applications, then click on the new app and if it can be moved it will let you know and move it.

I know its a pain at first to go though all your apps one by one but once you do, you only have to do this for new apps and some updates so its easy.

I understand this app allows moving apps that are not set up for movement to sd....I simply don't move those. My suggestion is that....only move apps developed for movement.

With regard to the first two paragraphs above, there is no need to run this app "all the time." Once rooted, turn it on, it'll "permit" (i.e., "force") a phone only app to be able to be sent to the SD card.

Secondly, the "move things yourself under 2.2" was known to me but that is ONLY with apps that the developer has chosen to allow this function. The Move2SD Enabler will FORCE apps that you "weren't allowed" to move to be able to move to the SD card. You simple cannot do what I was trying to accomplish with the stock "Manage Applications" options in the 2.2 OS.

And with regard to your last comment about going through "all your apps" you don't have to do that either!! There is an app that does NOT do anything fancy with FORCING apps to the SD card but automatically scans your apps, tells you which are ALLOWED to go to the card, which are ON the card and which must STAY on the phone. If you're like me with a WHOLE BUNCH of apps, this app is fantastic to what is where and what can be moved...no need to scroll through everything!!

It's called App 2 SD: App 2 SD (move apps to SD) - Android app on AppBrain

My own thought was that there are apps that for NO REASON can't be moved to SD simply because the developer has failed to "turn on" that option. I thought if I were careful and selective, I could move some stuff over to the SD and free up some space.

That being said, I rooted my EVO for the first time a few days ago. The first thing I wanted to do was use this Move2SD app and free up some space. I thought I was being very, very careful but apparently I was not. Something(2) I moved did NOT like being moved!! There were a BUNCH of apps I could not launch...the apps no longer showed up in the the App Drawer and, after trying to "fix" and undo what I did, I wound up locked up my phone so significantly that I had to flash a recovery!!! LOLOLOLOL!!

But I'm back up and running...:D

Notwithstanding my experience...I must have moved SOMETHING I shouldn't have (obviously) but do you (Mr. Ed or anything else) think that in many cases apps are safe to move to the SD card and the developer just simply has not "turned on" that ability. Or it is much more involved than that??

I think I STILL want to move some apps to the SD card but need to be more careful. I just I haven't learned my lessons yet!! :D

So, as you have read, I had a weeeee bit of problems:D'

QUESTION: Wake69 said he did not have any issues with force-moving apps to the SD card. INTERESTINGLY, even after "enabling" the ability to move the apps after rooting with Move2SD Enabler, there were STILL apps that I could not move! The "Move to SD Card" option in Applications Manager was GREYED out and could not be selected. For example, Flash still could not be moved to the SD card.

Anyone know why this was the case?? I think seeing that some apps STILL couldn't be force-moved to the SD gave me a false sense of security suggestion that some apps ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO stay on the phone but other apps that now can move with Move2SD Enabler can be moved to the SD with NO CONCERNS. For me at least, this last presumption was NOT the case...

Sorry...forgive my confusion...did you personally ENABLE the ability to force-move apps to the SD card (by choosing the "External" option in the Move2SD Enabler app)??

You wrote above that "if you cannot move it to the SD card in manage apps don't move it..." but even when you enable the force-move of apps, you still MUST use the Manage Apps settings to actually MOVE the app to the SD card. That's why I am confused...did you use Move2SD Enabler to FORCE any apps to the SD card?? If not, what did you use it for?? When I got in a little trouble a few days ago I only moved apps that I was given the option in Manage Apps to move...that is, after ENABLING the "External" option on Move2SD.

FORGIVE ME for I must sound like an idiot pounding at this issue  but you mentioned first that you had "no issues yet" when you used it but I DID so I'm trying to figure out HOW you used the app. I "enabled" the app...I used Manage Apps to move stuff to the SD...I had problems :(

I was using the app to FORCE the ability to move apps to the SD card. Otherwise, I would have just stuck with the stock Manage Apps settings capabilities...but that wasn't what I was trying to do...

Sorry again...but THANKS for the info and your patience!!

Ok...THANK YOU for the specificity!! I actually did what you did but ran into trouble. If I try again, I need to be more discerning with my moves...EVEN IF the app is able to be moved.

    Thanks again...
