Help Double contact information

When I purchased my Captivate, the salesman at the ATT store transferred the contacts from my old phone to the Captivate. I have since set it up so that the Captivate syncs with my google gmail account contacts. I now have duplicate information for most of my contacts, the information from Google (gmail contacts) plus the information labeled Phone, which I'm pretty sure was the data transferred from my old phone that did not have a data plan.

Where is the "Phone" contacts data stored?
How can I delete the "Phone" contacts (not individually)?
