Help Download Mode Issues with Lucid and XP

I've looked for solutions on the 'net and here, but no luck so far. I am trying to root my LG Lucid on a MSI netbook running windows XP. Not sure if some of the programs are not compatible with xp or maybe it's the phone...

Anyway, the computer has no problem recognizing my phone when it is on and plugged in; download mode is a different story. I can get it into download mode, but the comp won't recognize it. The screen is pretty dark but it says it is in the proper mode. It seems strange, because the text is bright for a split second (like it is active), but then switches to be quite dark. I am trying to use the KDZ updater thing to flash ZV6 (gingerbread) on to my phone so that I may put Cyanogenmod on there.

I have downloaded the drivers that were provided in the links for the LG usb, and as I said, it recognizes the device in normal operation.

Any advice? Or perhaps another way to get cyanogenmod on there? Thanks!

Edit: Forgot to add, when I run the KDZ updater thing, it freezes for a bit, starts showing parameters and what not and then states, "Phone Not Found." I have not restored my phone to factory settings, is this an issue (it has not been rooted before)?

I am following the instructions provided here: http://androidforums.com/lucid-all-things-root/697245-rom-beta-cyanogenmod-10-lg-lucid.html
