Help download mode not going anywhere

Hello to all you Android guru's,
Im new to all this but i think i have a pretty good mind for understanding instructions. but I cant seem to get this to work.

All I want to do is upgrade from GB to ICS on my I727. I can get to Download mode and then everything stops. when i press vol up nothing happens, Odin doesn't recognize phone, nothing changes on screen, so im wondering if i am doing something wrong.

Download Mode is used when you want to connect the phone to a computer and install Custom ROMs. So the phone is actually waiting for you to connect it to something.

Instead, do this:

Download Samsung KIES
Turn your phone off and then on (to take it out of Download Mode)
Connect it to PC while KIES is open
Click on "Basic Information" tab
Click on "Upgrade"

Done
