I JUST read a great little how-to on getting the X back to 2.1. It's now gone. Can anyone point me in the right direction. Not sure why we would take that off, even with the C&D in place. I'm really just trying to put it back to stock.

If it's about publishing links, then PLEASE, by all means... just email it to me or PM the link.

    My email is:

    mlc331@cox.net

    PLease help.... please :(

That sucks that it got removed. Wonder why? There's nothing illegal about flashing a phone you own.

    Here's a recap:

Google "www.nailservers.com" and find the link for downgrade.zip.

    Unzip everything (multiple zips).

Install the appropriate USB drivers for your system.

    Install RSD Lite.

Copy pst_flash.ini from the unzipped directory into your RSD install directory (mine was C:\Program Files\Motorola\RSD Lite\), overwriting what's there.

    Launch RSD Lite.

Select the .sbf file you unzipped.

Boot your phone into bootloader mode by holding power + volume down + camera button.

Select your phone in RSD lite and click start.

When it's finished (will probably say "Please manually power on phone" in RSD) your phone will be boot looping. Pull the battery.

Re-insert the battery and quickly hold power + home until the little android pops up

Press Search, scroll down to factory wipe, and hit okay.

Boot into 2.1 and be happy.

Well if you mods would figure out which friggin' forum you want that thread in, maybe it would reduce the confusion among those of us who took the short bus to school :D

Wanna bet that Motorola has a handful of lawyers who'd happily argue that point with you in court?

It's true that we own the phones but I suspect the fine print reads that we only own a right to use the proprietary image installed on the phone. Had this phone been stock Android than someone could argue that Android is open source... but this firmware image has Blur imbedded into it. That makes is quite likely proprietary.

Not yet. The reason is that the processor is set for a whole new foundation when you upgrade. You may have to find a friends computer or something to downgrade.

The good news it it's pretty easy and you can uninstall/delete all the files used to flash when done so it won't take up space on the PC.

    All the best,
    Eric

    Probably

Yes, I agree. And as such it's illegal to distribute the image. But since we own the phone, I believe (and I am not a lawyer, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night) it is not illegal for us to possess the image and flash the phone with it. Since we own the hardware we are technically in possession of the software.

Quite possibly... but I suspect it'll take a trip or twelve to the court room to get Motorola's lawyers to back down if this is their contention. At the moment all we've seen is Motorola waiving a C&D order at some. Hopefully it goes no farther than that... but, considering lawyers are involved, anything is still possible.
