I know many people are complaining about the Moto Droids camera. The images I saw before the release told me the camera needs a firmware update desperately. I know NOTHING about the Eris camera, except it took me about minute to figure out you press the trackball to take a picture (@ Verizon store). Please post some images and your thoughts about the camera. Thanks

    Taken this evening:

    Natural light
    Zoomed in 100%

Grainy but what can you expect from a cell phone.

  5. Yeah that is definitely not bad at all... I've certainly seen (much) worse on phones... I can be quite content with that sort of camera quality on my phone. That quality is definitely good enough for "I always have a camera with me" photos :)

My 8 month old Bernese Mountain dog in her hunting vest. Not bad for a cellphone!

This is a great thread, I'd love to see more low-lighting pics. I'm hesitant to get the Eris since it has no flash.

I took this pic looking into my house from outside after dark. My iPhone always seemed to have problems taking similar pics.

These photos are pretty nice. Good to see a decent camera on this phone!
  13. Its an OK camera.

The day shots are nice clear and crisp. The only issue I see with it is the horizontal noise lines in night shots. I thought it was just my phone but I can see the exact same thing in the night shots posted. Having 5mp is actually worse than lower resolution cameras since these high resolution CMOS sensors have poor light sensitivity due to individual pixels on the sensor being so small. My 3.2mp LG Dare camera produces better low light shots.

Camcorder feature on the Eris is below average for todays smart phones. Low max resolution (352x288), medium FPS (15) and again the low light performance is not the best due to the high density 5mp CMOS sensor.

Its stupid marketing and the lack of education of the general public that brings us to these lower quality CMOS cameras on our new smart phones.

3.2mp cameras produce better low light shots and still have more than enough resolution. The problem is most people think "ooo 5mp is better than 3.2mp" when this is simply not true. Resolution goes up and image quality starts to suffer even more in low light....

Overall its an OK camera....but that it.

My friend has the dare and low light pictures on it are horrible, and come out blueish. And 5 mega pixels is better then 3 mega pixels.

Hey don't knock the LG Dare. It's gonna be hard for most cell phone cameras to get good photos indoors. I've had a Dare for almost a year and a half and have never had problems. All but a couple of my TwitPic photos were taken with the LG Dare Twitpic / doit2it

All that being said, yea I'm about to upgrade to the HTC Passion next month. Not because I'm dissatisfied with my current phone, I'm just a gadget freak. And from the looks of the photos in this thread, I look forward to the camera HTC puts in their phones.

This is a pic I took this afternoon of my 2009 R1. Set at the 5MP. Looks just fine to me. Much better then my old Voyager that had 2MP
Yeah its not a great angle..but it was a rushed picture

Ok here are 3 images I snapped real quick today so I could experiment with upload times to flickr
First one is a low light shot wide, second is a close up non zoomed shot, and third is a full zoom low light shot.
I will try and get out this weekend and try to get some better shots and try the limited adjustments on the camera.
