    Hi everyone,

I'm too impatient for the N1 for VZW so I was thinking of getting the Motorola Droid since it seems to be the best android phone out there as of right now. Seems pretty durable too. Wish it weren't so ugly....but I can get over that. The operating system compensates for the phone's ugliness! :p Sorry to you droid fans! Anyways, I really don't want to go to a VZW corporate store to pay the outrageous prices for phones and I know other retailers like RadioShack, Walmart, Online websites all sell phones way cheaper (how I dunno) with instant rebates instead of mail-ins and I have never done one online before...

I did find the Droid on Tigerdirect.com for $49.99 for a new contract... but is buying a phone through these kinds of websites a nightmare or is it just a simple little add to cart, pay, and it gets sent to you?

Also... If I'm porting over my number, do you think it would be a hassle??

Just a few questions I need answered lol

    Thanks!!

    dren

There has to be some kind of string attached. I know you have to have Amazon activate the phone though. Verizon doesn't do that for you if you buy it from another place. I asked about that at Best Buy Mobile.

Droid is free when you add a line on Verizon. Hit up somebody and get a shared plan with 'em. :)

i clicked all the way through recently to see what the deal was....

you have to agree to an additional set of customer agreements depending on where you buy it. so for amazon, they connect to your verizon account and make sure everything is kosher and you sign the verizon customer agreement and agree to your new 2 year deal. but you also have to agree to an amazon 6 month deal. amazon says they are giving you an instant online discount to get that price and if you downgrade or cancel your service within 6 months of your purchase, then you owe the discount back to amazon.

    hope that helps.

So basically if I change my plan to anything lower or I cancel my service Amazon will charge me $250 for the phone. I was going to go on the lowest plan of 450 MOU/mo. $10 M2M Msging + 500 Extra Messages, and $30 Data.... So what if I were to upgrade my plan to unlimited messaging... they wouldn't count that as a strike against the Amazon agreement, right?

I literally got my Droid from Amazon on Friday and I talked to them on the phone because i wanted to be sure of the whole situation. They said you could do whatever you watned as long as your account stayed in good standing (doesnt get closed/you pay your bills etc)

It seems pretty fair and nothing seems fishy about it. The only problem I'm having with it is the option to port my number over from Sprint. I contacted Amazon support about it literally asking:

and they told me they don't have enough information to answer my question and they gave me a bunch of standard terms and conditions of buying a phone through Amazon.... they didn't answer my question lol

Do you know if it's possible, tominabox1?

I couldnt get the online thing to port my number from AT&T so I went to the VZW store and they gave me the number to do it over the phone. Went off without a hitch in about 10 minutes. So just skip the porting portion on the site and do it when you get the phone in hand.

Did Amazon say anything about what would happen if the phone got damaged after you bought it?

Not for me, but just in case I'm not thinking of the right thing to look for or questions to ask, tell me more. I looked on VzW web site & called them too.

There's a BOGO in place, but not for me, having purchased 1st Droid in Nov.

We're adding a line & want a Droid for that one too.

We apparently can go amazon or wirefly route, but free's better still.

It looks like you get a rebate card in the mail for the difference after the purchase. I can't find anything on the site, but I received an email with the details. I'm not sure if it only applies to certain customers or not.

No they didn't, to me at least. I immediately added accidental damage insurance the day I received the phone.

Yes you call a number when you get it. It takes 5 minutes at most. I just got off the phone with Amazon and they're crediting me $25 since I paid $50 a week ago! YAY Amazon is awesome.

Wal-Mart gas the Droid for 49.99 as well if you didn't want to go with an online partner.

true but I honestly don't trust walmart in setting up my account lol That's more like handing a kid a knife and saying "Okay, go play nicely with the other kids!" haha At least, that's the way it is here in my town.

Haha, I have gotten my last two phones from Wal-Mart, because of how much cheaper they are. I have not had a problem with them, because they have a detailed set of instructions to follow.
