I want to see if I can use my thumb drives to transfer files, play music, whatever. Should be kinda cool.

The problem is. there are so many of these experiments and not enough time. I want to play with dropbear as well. I'll have to decide which one is cooler. Hhmmn... Decision, decisions, decisions...

If you do decide to try this please keep us posted. I too have so many things I want to try and do and there isn't enough time in the day to do them all.

Why can't we have 25 or 26 hour days? :D

Ok, I've avoided working on big projects today simply due to being hungover and not running at 100% but reading this makes me think its time to go home for the day before I break my own computer, let alone fix someone's.

What the hell would be the use of this? Please talk to me like an end user, thats how I feel right now.

First of all, being able to plug a thumb drive into your DROID for any number of reasons. And from there, start thinking of any number of USB devices that you could plug into your DROID ... keyboards, mice, external drives, cameras, etc...

From what I've been reading host mode works, but there's really no supporting drivers. So you'll see the kernel see the new device, but not know what to do with it. We need hid, and basic hard drive support before this can become useful.

Yep, that's what I've been reading too. But I have written a driver or two in my day. Not for Linux, but it can't be that different than Windows.

    very nice!!!!!

This guy succeed to attache a real keyboard, a real mouse that is used as a trackball and a external USB storage device!!
Also he is using a battery USB hub to resolve the power charging needs of some of the devices.....

    In the forum dog house.
That Joe is so damned cocky!

    :p

Joe, are you familiar with CHDK? (Canon stuff.) They've ported every damned Canon P&S that has Digic III & IV on it. Maybe they could help with getting the Droid to recognize all the different twains & crap and maybe even some cameras with remote shoot capabilities.

I'd love to see atheros or rtl8xxx drivers created for it. Would make getting aircrack working a bit easier. Would also give us wireless with monitor mode. I'd have a handheld computer with kismet again.

I back-burnered the project until this morning because I have the day off. So after I have my coffee and Belgium waffle, I'm going to splice some cables and see what happens.

    * UPDATE *

Welp ... I gave it a shot. As expected, in Terminal Emulator I can see that there is a USB hub and that there is a "new device detected". But that's about as far as I can get right now. I'm going to have to decide if it's worth it to fool around with drivers, or just let the Linux Gurus handle that end of things. I've written drivers for Windows, back when some Win98 devices didn't work in WinXP (or maybe they were win95 devices?). But having done a little homework, I think it's a little more daunting of a task in Linux. I dunno ... maybe I'm wrong.

usb microphone for higher quality audio recording
usb ir transmitter/receiver for universal remote control - with an app that receives a signal from a remote at a usb sensor and the droid detects it and stores it to customizable grid

Along those lines ... a USB external soundcard for way better (digital) audio out.

And, USB to MIDI. So I can program my Johnson JM-150 via my DROID. No more laptop needed.
