Heres a speed tip that i posted for the eris a week or so ago, it'll work on the incredible also.

Basically you turn off animations and it makes the phone feel much quicker.

    Menu>Settings>Sound & Display>Animation

Set it to Animations Off. There are 3 settings: Show All Animations, Show Some Animations, and Turn Off Animations, the off options is the best for overall performance.

    Battery Saver (Airplane) Trick:

Try this put your phone into airplane mode, wait a couple seconds and take it out of airplane mode. This should fix the issue until you reboot your phone.

Its a known issue with the 2.1 android os, this seems to make your battery last alot longer. Its been posted about in the Droid Eris Section of this forum and seems to work quite well for those having issues with their battery not lasting a full day. Its known as the "Airplane Trick".

    Those both sound handy, thanks.

I always turn off animations in Windows, and people always say my system seems snappier than theirs.

I agree, both tips work wonderfully on the eris, but we have no idea if it's the same on the DInc, unless you've tried it. If you have and it does the same thing, great, but if not, let's wait and see before creating the "DInc speed tips". There has been some discussion about sense on the DInc being just a bit different than the 2.1 leak we got for the eris, so we may not need these. Just my thoughts.

I do the same thing. Funny no one listens to me half the time though until I am rebuilding their system for them. Oh well.

I'm assuming it is an android setting and not an htc setting for both tips. They should work on any android device not just ones with htc senseui.

Incredible seems to have LESS animations than Eris. Helix also loses it's iphone-like animations.

I'm pretty sure this only does something if your "Cell Standby" is taking up a large portion of your battery usage. Normally you would also have 50% time without a signal when you select Cell Standby if this were a problem.

I will try the airplane trick now. I'm not sure if the Call Standby is too high or not for me, 42% does seem rather high, as phone idle hovers around 44%

What are "Some animations"... I like the animations, but I also like the snappy feel of no animations.

    Decisions decisions....

Call me stupid, but I turned the animations of on my wife's Eris, and on my Incredible, and I don't even see what I'm missing? Does seem to be snappier on both. What are these animations that I'm missing?

Another newb here. First day with the Incredible, have been using it a ton. I don't see changing to airplane mode in Settings. Is it somewhere else? I'm in my last hour of work and my phone is near death :-(. Full charge this morning.

Settings > About Phone > Battery

This will give you general info. Hit "Battery use" for percentages.

Settings > Wireless & networks > Airplane mode

You can also create a toggle widget for airplane mode to make the switch easier:

Long press on home > Widget > Settings > Airplane mode

My cell standby usage is usually 50% or more of my battery usage. It also has shown 90% or more of time without a signal. Right now it's sitting at 86%.

I tried the airplane mode a few days ago and it took the tiem without signal from 40% or so to 0% while sitting in my office.

Do I have to do this every time I come in in the morning? That's pretty annoying if I do, but well worth it. I bring my charger in to work so I'm not too worried, but I just want to know what to do incase I need it somewhere else.

I also get very poor reception at my office, which is what's causing the problem, searching for 3g signal constnatly, switching back and forth between 3g and 1x. I've heard the airplane mode fixes this, but I also heard you have to do it while plugged in or something. Can anyone confirm???? (last time I believe i plugged it in, turned airplane mode on, let it sit on sleep for a few minutes, then turned airplane mode off and unplugged it).

I just did the airplane mode step and *228.

Currently I have 58% of my battery use attributed to cell standby and 92% without a signal. I guess I'm just going to have to keep it plugged in when I'm in the office.

You lose nothing, the setting does nothing.

It also isn't snappier, that's a placebo effect.

The phone is already lightning fast.

The phone only SEEMS faster with no animations simply because you dont have to watch the animations take place. The CPU is no where near stressed by those little animations.

I keep mine at "some animations"

Still looking for what animations get turned off. Is there a list somewhere or does anyone know a few to list?
