I just looked at Droid Life's walkthrough of the new 2.1 official update:

Video: Review of the Official Motorola Droid 2.1 Update | Droid Life: A Motorola Droid Blog

And his background was the "neural network" live wallpaper we've all seen on the Nexus One. Although, this one has a Droid-y looking rugged background with red going in all directions.

I like it! Much more Droid-like!

I DO NOT want to leave Cyanogen for a stock ROM, but will this be included in future ROM releases? I sure hope so.

(Actually, is it possible to get it now somehow? By pulling apart the update.zip?)

That lwp has been around since ese53. From what I understand its not hard to edit the apk and change the colors but I can't say I have tried

But this one doesn't look like the nexus one. The background is a little different. It looks like they combined the stock droid wallpaper with the nexus wallpaper to make it look rough. This isn't in any of the ROMs i've tried, so I'm guessing they made it specifically for the Droid?

I'm assuming the background is just a png. Surely someone can pull it from the .apk and put it in the Nexus Mod donate or something.

I know Bugless Beast used to have the Neural Network LWP and last I checked Pete has options for a bunch of different colors (in addition to the default rainbowy Nexus one). Maybe you could take the download for Red that he has and somehow get it into Cyanogen?

Smoked Glass had it as well, and you could customize the colors that ran on the background.

The Droid version has a more Droid-ish background. None of the color schemes you can get for the Nexusmod one have all red color scheme either. I'm sure it won't take long for them to be added though.

Use Pete's download. It's even called "Neural Network". It's the actual Droid LWP.

I don't actually want an ESE81 based ROM. Not yet at least.

I've used the download in his ESE53 ROMs. Maybe even in ERE25; I don't remember. That was a while ago. :D

This is the .apk from ESE53/ESE81 that is "Droided out"

    LiveWallpapers.apk

This should work on CM, but make sure you have a backup of the original file if it doesn't.

This needs to be pushed to /system/app/

It will replace the NexusMod LWP, though you can download it again from the market.

It force closes on me when I try to preview it. I'm not that great with UNIX so I probably did something wrong.

    Mac UNIX terminal:
    Code (Text):
    1. /Applications/android-sdk-mac_86/tools/adb shell
    2. su
    3. sysrw
    4. mv /system/app/LiveWallpapers.apk /system/app/LiveWallpapersbak.apk
    5. sysro
    6. exit
    7. exit
    8. /Applications/android-sdk-mac_86/tools/adb push /Applications/android-sdk-mac_86/tools/LiveWallpapers.apk /system/app/LiveWallpapers.apk

If it's force closing, then it's because there's incompatibilities between Cyanogen and ESE81 frameworks, sorry :(

That's why the nice NexusMod ones don't work on ESE81 either.

Hmm... I should probably mention I was on Ultimate Droid when I did it lol. I think that's ESE53 based isn't it?
