I recently went from a Droid incredible to a droidx. I like the bigger screen and better battery life of the x but I feel like the phone lags.

Individual software runs fine and my quadrant scores are above 1400 but unlocking the phone, going from screen to screen etc... all that feels very choppy and slow.

Is this normal? Stock was unbelievably choppy so I'm running Rubix, may give apex another try with new version.

Lets face it, the Moto software isn't the best. Stock is OK, but it also takes a while for some info to cache for smoother performance.

But it's generally not a laggy phone, it just gives the impression of being laggy. Unlocking the phone is one of the biggest complaints, but tests have shown it really doesn't take longer to unlock compared to a Sense model like the DInc, just that the on screen animation isn't as smooth, so it gives the perception that the phone is slow.

But if you've already installed ROMs, I'm sure there's one out there you'll like.

Get LauncherPro and you'll have no lag! It's incredible, everybody on this forum really loves it.

    The Motoblur stuff is garbage.

Just go to settings/applications/manage applications and look for ADW in there. You can uninstall it from there.

There are a couple different ways, really.

If you already have Titanium Backup Pro, you can either freeze it using that, or uninstall it completely. That's probably the easiest method. You might be able to do some file renaming to remove it, as well.

Just be sure to do a backup first, in case something goes wrong.

I would totally go for completely stock android. I loved my nexus one. Why use launchers at all. Btw. Thanks for the titanium suggestion. Froze and then removed adw

You can just go into the system/app folder and then rename the .apk to .bak or just delete the app completely. There are quite a few moto apps that I delete with any ROM that I use. Another thing that will make LP even better is to press menu >preferences >advanced settings >memory usage >memory usage presets >and then select medium or high.

Fission 2.2.2 is the smoothest ROM that I've tried so far.

That ROM with LauncherPro Plus and the Lucid theme is very nice.

If you're rooted please try AutoKiller memory manager or the memory manager in JRummy's overclock app. That should do the trick in whatever ROM you are running.

PM me if I may be of further help.

PS: As you are rooted and are talking roms and such, I'm going to move this to the root section. I'm not married to that decision, so if you object, please let me know and I'll move it back.

When you're running LauncherPro (or any home-replacement app), unless you cleaned house before installing, you still have widgets running in the background. You should use Home Switcher or a similar app to switch back to Blur and remove all the widgets from your screens, then maybe clear the cache again, reboot and use LP again.

Sound like maybe another rogue app?

    Have you tried ADW.Launcher instead?

I'd install watchdog and see what's using your cpu.

He's running Rubix he just said...
    He never said which version...
I'd recommend reloading Rubix or Rebooting and Clearing Cache...
Also remove all widgets and go 1 by 1 till you find the lag...

What about overclocking w/the Droid X overclock app? I have mine set to just 1.1 and that seems to smooth out any remaining lags that I have (using LP), without sacrificing battery much.

Rubix improves perfomance and battery in a nutshell. I'm running the latest, with Juice BLue, and Launcher Pro Plus...

Great combo, great setup... will never go back =)

Rubix Blurry 1.63 here, but had no major problems before it either. It DID fix the battery FC's tho and hopefully the dialer issues I had (no sound).

    I'm also overclocked at 1.25 @ ULV.
