i saw an article but i can't find it anymore that the Droid X's OMAP3630 processor got a 1500 on Quadrant benchmark while the EVO was around 500. The EVO is plenty fast for me, but knowing that the Droid X running on 2.1 performs that well has me feeling a little jealous :p

It's not a hardware issue, it's an HTC issue with their implementation of 2.1 on the evo. Wait for 2.2 then try again, i bet the gap is much closer overall.

The Evo has been benched on Froyo...it's on par with the Incredible. I believe the Galaxy S and definitely the Droid X will outperform that by lots on Froyo. I'm still trying to decide on the Droid X or Evo...primarily on the speed of the X and the future proof of the Evo's front facing camera...

    Future proof? Really? :)

I can't imagine any piece of tech hardware being future proof. There's ALWAYS something better just around the corner. I suspect the EVO will be bested long before the end of the year.

Really the one thing no one is too familiar with on a phone is a front-facing camera. I agree tech changes in a heartbeat but how will the Evo really fall too far behind hardware wise in the near future? Speed should be sufficient by now with a the 1ghz processor and HTC/Sprint should be supporting the phone for a good while. There will always be a bigger and badder phone around the corner but at least with the Evo, the front facing camera will be there and won't be left behind when future phones come equipped with it.

Point taken. The FFC certainly is a new wrinkle for phones and I suppose it could go the way of the dodo bird if it doesn't see wide use. I don't follow Apple products, but it seems like I read that the next iteration of the iphone will also have a FFC. If so, that will go a long way towards keeping the feature alive in the future. If the devs embrace the capabilities it offers, I imagine it will become a common feature of smartphones in general. It really is an exciting time for the consumer. So many companies are fighting for marketshare that it's sparking fierce competition. I can't wait to see what comes out next. :)

I think it's due to HTC Sense being bloated as opposed to Moto/Ninja Blur. Probably some updates could help speed things up.

So why are you here if HTC sucks so bad?

Just asking. ALL I have ever seen you post is trash about the Evo.

So again. Why are you here if you think the phone is so bad?

I always look at the phone-carrier combination. While the X is supposed to have even better specs, it's going to cost to use them. If the ATT tiered pricing raised eyebrows, wait until VZW. Oh, and let's see how fabulous that phone works given anything coming out this summer probably isn't going to be the LTE-compatible version to buy. Any more speed on 3G than the Evo's probably not a good return on investment.

I see it being widely used in the future, I mean they did it in Back To The Future, ya know?

What cpu is that droid x running?

Dual core snapdragon would have been so nice in the EVO.

The biggest thing holding the phone Evo back is the 30fps cap and the Sense UI. The reason I know that is because the Nexus One uses the same CPU and GPU and the Nexus One outperforms the Evo by a lot. So, hopefully with the 30fps cap fix that's coming and the addition of Froyo the Evo will be much better.

I don't really buy that, i did the benchmark with sense and stock ecliar running and got 533 with sense and 524 with ecliar.

And the Evo is not future proof because of the camera, but the ability to work on a 4g network. I think the Galaxy S pro will be the only true comparison, but for me i don't like keyboards so thats not one i would be interested in. I am not one who needs the latest and greatest thing so i will be fine with the EVo for a year or two, kept the diamond for awhile and it was fine with updates and custom roms that made it run faster, i suspect it will be the same case with the evo, but its my first android so idk. How much more speed do you really need in a phone anyway. Like moto saying they want to have a 2ghz by end of year, if thats the case why would anyone buy the droid x? And what are you really going to do with all the speed, not to mention battery life, lol. So yeah, if you have to have the newest and greatest thing the evo will be obsolete probably by the fall, or even the end of the summer, but why would you care if the phone does what you need it to do. That has always been my main dislike of Apple, how they release basically the same phone with minor updates and the apple fanboys cum in their pants and have to have it. Its such a waste of materials and energy. Anything that comes out will basically just be a minor upgrade to the evo.

Because its the best phone on Sprint. HTC does suck, all their hardware has one or more major flaws.

Do you own an EVO Dreamliner? There are issues with all phones out there. Its a part of life. Even the iphone had one or more major flaws. Nothing is perfect. But I guess we have to put up with negative nanny.

false. the Evo actually runs a different 1Ghz processor than the N1. it's the same one that's in the Incredible.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned this yet, I just skimmed over the posts, but the CPU performance should be similar.

The biggest difference in performance is the Hummingbird GPU, apparently its several times more powerful.

What? How is that an argument. The poster said that the Nexus performs better and now you're saying the EVO has a newer Snapdragon. That makes the EVO look even worse.

    wasn't an argument

ahhh. i see. thanks for the correction. technically, it is newer, though...since the CDMA variants came out after the N1. just sayin'

and, in regards to my original reply to the post i first quoted, the guy said it's the same processor. it's not. may be same guts or whatever, but it's a different chip.

    original reply corrected.

from the pics the EVO looks much more polished compared to the Droid X (SEE HERE)

The Droix X is wider and taller and too plasticy toy like looking for my taste.

Software wise, a brighter future for the EVO is just around the corner with the arrival of "Frozen Yogurt"

i absolutely hate the actual buttons on the Moto X. i'm very happy with the ones on the Evo.

however, i am interested in the Droid2. even though it's lower spec'd than the Evo, if i were a VZW customer, that's what i'd get. and i don't even like phones with keyboards. the new design is just slick imo.
