Using ROM manager I tried to go from DroidMod 1.0 to CyanogenMod 5.0.5.3 and now my droid wont get beyond the bootup. It shows the Moto logo, then the Droid splash then the red eye and repeats. I had nandroid backups but it seems the recovery cant find them, nor can it find an update.zip on the sd. I am stuck and don't know where to go from here. Please help!

That's because the ROM is not an update.zip. Go into recovery (hold x while powering on) and go to:

    Install zip from sdcard > choose zip from sdcard > clockworkmod > download > DroidAfterMarket.com > koush > motorola > sholes > cyanogen_sholes.ota-eng.koush_5.0.5.3.zip
    (this will install the ROM)

    Then (without rebooting) go to:
    Install zip from sdcard > choose zip from sdcard > clockworkmod > download > briancrook.ca > android > nexus > gapps > gapps-passion-EPE54B-signed.zip
(this will install google apps...and I hope you chose to download them when you downloaded the rom...market is included in that download and it's a PITA without it :))

Optional (but HIGHLY recommended) - VERIFY THAT THE ABOVE FILES ARE PRESENT PRIOR TO DOING THIS

    Before you load the ROM:
on main recovery screen, click on wipe data/factory reset
    then go to:
    partitions menu > format system
    partitions menu > format cache
    partitions menu > format boot

This will help to ensure a clean install.

Thanks UBRocked. I found the zip and installed it, but I guess I didn't get the google apps so I cant do the second step, and alas there is no market. How can I either fix this or go back to droid mod 1.0 or stock 2.01?

Here you go. Just put this .zip file on your sdcard and then choose it when you "install .zip from sdcard".

Once you get done with that, (and this is my opinion of course) download this file and put it somewhere you can find it on your sd card (this is how I roll and it is a great themed version of cyanogen):

    (3-27) Jrummy's Remix Cyanmod 5.0.5.3 V.0.3 *too Many Scripts & Goodies* - CyanogenMod Forum

Back up your apps using Titanium backup (free in market) unless you just wiped data and have no reason to backup your apps

Then perform a backup using ROM manager or in recovery...

    Then boot into recovery...

on main recovery screen, click on wipe data/factory reset
    then perform the following:

on main recovery screen, click on wipe data/factory reset
    then go to:
    partitions menu > format system
    partitions menu > format cache
    partitions menu > format boot

Install zip from sdcard > choose zip from sdcard > Point to the file you just installed on your sdcard (JRummy's remix)

Then reboot...bam...this is cyanogen at it's best IMO. Should be fast and smooth and if you want faster...go here and get a new kernel (post # 159) Kernel Requests - CyanogenMod Forum - Page 8

    Enjoy!

I'm wondering if you are REALLY needing to go through this so often. I have flashed every ROM on the planet (exaggerating of course :)) but I have yet to need the .sbf tool....I'm just saying...that is really for when you have no options and it seems as though you are using it when things get a little dicey. I'm just trying to save you some time...;)

Okay I was thinking you still had access to recovery...don't you? Cause you could pull the battery and then reinsert it while holding the 'x' key...then restore a nandroid backup...done in 5 minutes

So rather than make a new thread, I'll just ask here, because I'm tired of rebooting and restoring countless times, and something tells me you know the answer right off the top of your head!

I have managed to flash the stock cyanogen, however installing the google apps zip doesn't seem to work. NO MATTER, I always wanted to try JRummys anyway.

PROBLEM: clearly I'm doing something wrong, because I can't get any of jrummys working. Rather than asking you to debug what is mostly likely a user error (I'll hit myself over the head later when I figure it out), I'll just ask you for what works!

I'm running the latest clockwork recovery mod. I want to install JRummy. Which one, and what menu command in clockwork to make it work???
(I'm really hoping what you say somehow differs from what I've already tried).

    a) Original Theme update.zip
    b) SPRecovery: Nandroid with Original Theme (obviously not the one since I'm using clockwork)
    c) Clockwork Recovery: Nandroid with Original Theme

I agree sbf should be an absolute last resort imo. From what I have read sbf can lead to you truly bricking your phone if it were to mess up in the process of writing the bootloader.

Ok so just because you didn't have a nandroid backup doesn't mean you need to use the sbf. You could have just gotten any other ROM that is in nandroid form and flashed it. Either way you would be "starting new". I hope people realize how RISKY it is using RSD Lite and sbf's, if you make one small mistake your phone will be bricked beyond repair by even VZW. Even if you are extremely careful you could still have a power outage to your PC and that would screw everything up and result in a brick.

Do you have an up-to-date recovery? You might want to download the latest version of Rom Manager and then install the latest recovery...it should be there (it's not tied to the rom, it is tied to Clockwork recovery).

That sucks. Then he should at least allow it via ADB like SPRecovery.

Yes I do have the most recent version, but I still can't account for that option in the partition menu.

I now have the latest version and it's gone...I'm hoping to get it back in some form. Otherwise, I'll just flash to SPRecovery...format...and then jump back...what a PITA!

I knew I wasn't crazy!!! I was trying to find this option forever yesterday morning and I went bat shit crazy. Even with ADB it doesn't work since he has bash installed or at least I think that's the culprit.

From what I have read, the format options were written into SPRecovery...I don't think they are "standard" adb commands.

Any ideas where the best place (link) would be to go beg for the format>cache and format>system options back in the partitions menu in ClockworkMod Recovery?
