Rule #1 When getting any electronics wet is NEVER turn it on until dry.
Rule #2 Pull the battery and put it in a bag of dry rice.
Rule #3 Pay for the insurance through Verizon.

I hope it works out for you. Water is a tough one without insurance.
    Good luck john

Never heard about the rice and don't turn on till dry advice before. Something ill keep in mind but hopefully never have to use it.

Something i found out though is don't put your droid in your jacket pocket while cleaning snow off your car. Had a scare reaching in my pocket for the droid and felling snow. Thankfully it still worked.

i still still put the phone and battery in a bag of rice.. i'll see if that helps

The nerve. You break your phone and you are not happy that Verizon replaces it free of charge....and complain that you aren't getting a BRAND new one for the one you used for a month and broke.

This is why everyone pays more for the phone, people are careless, break their phones get free new ones and the rest of us have to pay extra.

There are things called accidents. No need to jump down the guy's throat.

To the OP, you may get a refurb, but I wouldn't worry about it as it should work just the same as any new unit, possibly even better since it should have been checked over during the refurb process to make sure everything is working properly. With a new phone, its only checks would have probably been at the factory, and new Droid's can unfortunately come with a lot of strange problems.

for your future phone....you may want to consider getting a lifejacket.

I kid I kid. That is sad news tho, I would be DEVASTATED if that happened to me. Now that you mention it, I should look up 100m waterproof cases for my phone.......

Just hope and pray they don't check the water damage sticker on the inside of the battery compartment when you send the other one back, if it is activated then you will get a pretty sweet charge on your next bill for a new DROID. Be happy if they don't but please be more careful or get the insurance because this is not covered by Verizon's 30 day return or any other warranty from them, basically it is taking advantage of them and us because that's the reason they charge more and more for phones and everything else.

I too had a scare with the snow. I was trying to take pics with cold hands and dropped my phone in a snowdrift. I snatched it back up and so far it seems to be ok.. LOL accidents happen that is what insurance is for. Make sure you insure the next one.

My daughter sent her LG Chocolate 3 through the washing machine. I found it while putting clothes in the dryer. GRRRR!

Anyway, I took it apart (NEVER try to turn on a wet phone) and put all the pieces in a small ziplock bag full of uncooked rice for 24 hours. The rice pulled the moisture out of the phone and it powered up nicely. Not a perfect scenario and the moisture indicator is permanently red... but at least the phone works.

Something to keep in mind if your phone ever gets wet. Let's be careful out there and have a GREAT Twenty Ten! :D

I'm getting this because I coach football cheerleading and we stand out in rain and snow and I always have to have my phone with me.

OtterBox has some really rugged cases. No Defender for the Droid yet, but with a little modification, the 1900 series works well for me out on the trails. I have it mounted to my bikes tube and can track myself and my friends with mytracker and lattitude. Awesome if you are a gung-ho outdoor enthusiast. You can get all the different mounting hardware etc from them too.

Christmas present from my grandkids...Aquapac PDA case. I tournament bass fish and will need to protect the Droid in my boat. I have let a couple of cells swim/sink in the past. You can still use the touch screen through the case-tried that Christmas day, but I have not tried a phone call yet to see how it blocks the sound-got some time, water pretty hard right now in Indiana.

My 2 cents.. I've seen my fair share of watered down laptops and phones, pull the batteries and then heat it up good with a hair dryer. This takes time and I would heat it a couple of times, like for 30 minutes or so a piece, but I have always had them come back to life, so it works for me.....

My daughter's $6,000.00 insulin pump took a dive in the lake and would not work, I did put it in rice for two days, it did bring it back to life. I had it replaced anyway this is her life line, I can't have something go wrong from water damage.

My droid has joined the dark screen side with the only message showing up being the bootloader 2c.6c and mine had a close call with a wave at the beach just getting the edge of the phone slightly damp... i would like to no did the rice trick work, because my droid is litterally 6 days old...
