Earphone 3.5mm query

Hi there,

A relatively simple question (hence the username!).

I'm currently torn between the impending iPhone 4 and a Desire.

I have hearing issues and have adapted 3.5mm headphones in order to hear my current MP3 player through them.

With the iPhone I can make a phone call with these headphones (no inclusive mic) and talk to the phone and hear any returning conversation through the headphones.

I'd appreciate it if someone could make a phonecall with standard 3.mm headphones / no inclusive mic, using the headphones to hear the conversation and talking to the phone in front of you and let me if they were successful?
