My stock 8GB card is showing about 7GB full, so I figure I'd better upgrade to a larger card before I start running into problems.

My preference would be to NOT have to do much work. I like the way my card is set up now. My phone is working well. I don't want to mess with a good thing.

Is it possible to simply copy the entire contents of the old, 8GB card onto the new 32GB card, insert the new card in the EVO, and be on my way? Or, is there other stuff I need to do?

I would rather NOT do any kind of clean installation and restore all my apps and data, one by one.

Thanks, in advance, for any advice.

Plug the phone into the computer. Drag the contents off the old card onto the computer. Physically swap them out. Drag the contents from the computer onto the new card...done!

Nice! I'm glad to know how easy to do this. Thinking of upping my storage as well.

This is exactly what I did with a 16GB card that I just bought the other day. Worked perfect!! I originally wanted a 32GB card, still would like one really, but could not justify the price difference since I found a Kensington 16BG Class 4 for just over $30 shipped and brand new.

Swapping or Transferring SD Card Contents

It has always been the case that when you swap SD cards on an Android device, if you physically copy the contents of the old card to the new one, the system will use the data on the new card as if nothing had changed. This is also true of apps which have been installed on the SD card.

It's so easy, even a caveman could do it.

Maybe one day, I'll upgrade. I don't own much music (been a Rhapsody customer for 6 years now), but I am starting to buy tracks here and there so that one day, I can possibly leave Rhapsody.

I also don't watch much video content (nor do I own any) that would work on my phone.

Are you guys using all this storage for music, video, pictures, or just whatever?

I upgraded to a 16GB card when my iPod burned up (yep, toasted the sync/charge port on the FM transmitter) and I decided to just put everything on one device. Works like a charm :)

I just found a 16 gig class 6 for 33 bucks free shipping. I asked someone about it and they also said just copy and paste and I was glad to be told it's that simple. I should get my card any day now. I have lots of music and just wanted to be able to put more on my card and maybe a movie or a TV show I recorded. I am down to 1 gig left now. But I also listen to Sirius alot too so I don't need alot of music on my card but I would of gotten a 32 if they were cheaper.

I'm hoping someone here can give me a hand with this. I just picked up a 16gb card to replace my 8gb that came with the phone. I have the usual fare of pictures and songs with some movies on the card, however, I also have quite a few apps on the sd card. I am not rooted and have not manipulated any apps that don't allow running from the sd card, so nothing out of the ordinary is going on. I've only moved apps that allow it from the Settings>Applications>Manage Applications menu.

That being said, I copied the entire contents of my 8gb card to my Mac desktop, inserted the new 16gb card in the Evo, unmounted the new card and formatted it and copied over everything from the 8gb card. After doing this, none of the apps that were running on the sd card are installed anymore. What did I do wrong?

How are you supposed to transfer everything over? For some reason, I'm unable to see "hidden folders" on my sd card on my Mac. Is that where all the info is stored? Do I need to somehow access that folder to copy over? Any help is appreciated.

I'm having the same problem with my Mac and HTC Legend. I am currently trying to copy my old SD card to a PC and then paste it onto my new SD card. None of my apps, that were on my SD card, would run. This may not be relevant but, I think, Macs use a different type of HD format to the PC and the HTC (This may not be true but I think I experienced something like this when trying to copy files before from PC to Mac). Maybe look into that as a potential solution the problem. I'll update this post if what I'm trying on the PC works as smoothly as the others have said.

I am a PC user and while on vacation my SD card died. Being stranded on "Mac island" (no access to a PC, only a MAC), I stumbled around until I found how to show hidden files on Mac OS X. (source: http://www.codejacked.com/osx-finder-hidden-files/)

Open a Terminal windows (Found under /applications/utilities/) and type the following two lines:

    > defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE
    > killall Finder

This will show the hidden files, then kill all open Finder windows so the new setting can take affect.

BAM! Hidden files now visible. Now copy away. Most of my Apps are back, but the icons are missing. I don't know how much is user error and how much is pure data corruption due to the dying SD card, so I will keep working on it.

Hope this helps some Mac folks who want to upgrade their SD cards.

    Hi -

Thank you for keeping this forum going. This is a big help to me and I imagine most Android users. Thanks again.
