Help Email notification - ringer off, status bar on?

Is there a way to mute audio notification of new emails without also suppressing notifications in the status bar? I get way too much email to have it play a sound every time one comes in, but I do still want to be able to see at a glance when I have new messages.

I've figured out how to change the ringtone, but there's no option to use no ringtone at all. I'm hoping there's a better solution than recording a blank ringtone!

The gmail app can allow notifications but have the tone as silent. Dont use the email app to check.

Found it - thank you! I was already using the Gmail app, but I didn't dig deep enough. Having Zedge installed confused me as to what my options were, but once I told it I wanted to use the OS to control sounds, I was able to select Silent.
